That doesn't service Dallas/Ft. Worth area which is where I'm talking about. That's for Houston area and SE Texas. You have to remember, Texas is a huge state, the 2nd largest!

Also of note “It’s the first power plant we’ve built in Texas since 1979" so in 42 years Texas has seen a crazy population increase and the power plants aren't on pace.

Solar is a joke still, maybe someday it will be efficient enough.

Our big deal in my part of VA is summer heat. But seriously I cannot remember a rolling blackout. Something is amiss.....you would think Summer time use is way more demanding than Winter. Maybe it's a Covid thing, no commercial use and everything is private now?

I hope you all fare well.

Not to mention 25,000 megawatts of wind turbines "frozen up" from ice storms.

There has been a bit over 30,000 MW of wind / solar brought online this century so .. not sure what your “It’s the first power plant we’ve built in Texas since 1979" is based on?

Texas has its own power grid, managed by ERCOT .. so the new plant, in Montgomery County, does effect you.

That is what the article you linked to stated. Did you not read it? Plus I have heard/read many people say the same, no new power plant in decades yet the population is sky rocketing. We actually had rolling blackout concerns in the DFW area years ago during that long stretch of 100+ degrees in the summer. Even then it was mentioned how we need more power plants to handle all the businesses and population in DFW and surrounding areas. We are already piping in some water from Oklahoma to help meet that demand.

Again the article even states that power plant is for SE Texas.

I got the generator up and running ASAP after loosing power at 2pm. Almost wouldn't start. 1hp thumper diesel on rope start. Sure needed some ether.
10pm news said power plant generators shut down from the cold. They showed some machinery with foot long icicles on it all. Pisses me off. I am gonna get a whole home generator. SHECO couldn't tell me if outage was rolling brownout or downed lines. At 3pm, we were told 9pm to restore power. It came on briefly at 8pm. Then when out shortly after. Now they say 2:15am to restore power.
hugs, Brandi

All power plants connected to power grid keep the entire grid up, and all draw from same grid. A plant does not feed one region.

It's an interconnected system .. a "grid".

Very similar to Texas in this photo.

The wind turbines are all frozen. The solar panels covered with snow.

Green Energy fails.

So how does a wind turbine freeze up? Does it mean ice on the blades making them to heavy, not aerodynamic, or unbalanced? Or does it somehow actually freeze and prevent rotation?

Some of the issues are discussed in the article at the following link ... as well as some of the preventative measures/solutions that can be used/implemented to mitigate extreme cold weather events:

Prepare Your Renewable Plant for Cold Weather Operations

Just Watched TUCKER from yesterday (Monday) night. Rather interesting commentary on The Green New Deal and TEXAS.

Terrible how it seems that politics and big money has taken over common sense. Or is that just to be taken for granted?

I suspect greed has alot to do with Texas's problem right now. Everyone wants cheap power, so don't prepare it for cold temps and unregulated cost have sky rocketed the cost of wholesale power. People north of Texas run windmills year round, and you'd think with windpower only a 25% share, that even if they were all down, it could be made with other sources.

Stupid notion, but you might almost think they are being punished, like others these days. Unity, healing and all that.
