SpaceX needs to pass through a deep chasm of negative cash flow over the next year or so to make Starlink financially viable. Every new satellite constellation in history has gone bankrupt. We hope to be the first that does not.

So your saying your 4GLTE connections costs you 25 dollars a month?

Is it unlimited? Does it throttle? Who is the provider?

I also use the mobley, unlimited at $23 month. No longer offered. I’ll ride this horse till it dies. I recently put my sim in a netgear modem and am getting better performance.

That likely explains the reason for their new pre-order policy? :confused3: Hopefully Elon will use his deep pockets to fill the deep chasm. Starlink is a superior product with a future, global rural customer base. Those two factors should be sufficient to preclude bankruptcy.

Hard to gauge actual interest, without actual cash. Now he gets a little more data about both.

Note how it - Starlink, is still under SpaceX in his tweet. I think there is still talk of an IPO.

How's my tea leaves reading? LOL.

He took early orders on tesla’s also.

There is an Android app in the Google playstore that will guide you on setup if installed. It checks for obstructions on placement of your dish.
It is called Starlink.

I tried that app the other day when I got notice that Starlink was available to order in my area. Couldn't get it to do anything other than open a camera. It just kept saying 'turn phone, tilt phone' but never an outcome.

Decided I'd wait for a few months because 1) $550 is a steep entry; and 2) It's winter and I don't want to go up on the roof right now. To give it a fair shake and evaluate well within the 30 day refund period I want to wait for warmer weather and get it on my roof.

I just tried it, same results. Not sure what it was trying to do.

My son down loaded the app and had the same results as Big Blue1 My guess is that it could not locate the satellites as we are at about 40 degree latitude out of the area for the current satellite

We're just above the 29th so .. who knows?

Got my system yesterday. Sets up in 5 minutes. Takes about 15 minutes to lock into a satellite. Getting Initial speeds of 50MBit down and 10-20MBit up. Averaging 40-50ms pings with jitter running between 1-10ms.

Performance has been variable but in general it's way snappier than my xplornet point to point. Xplornet throttles data differently and tends to have a lot of lag when downloading large files like updates or streaming video. i.e apple updates are throttled to dial up internet speeds and take forever to complete. xplornet's bandwidth management policy sucks big time.

So far I see download speeds ranging from 40-110MBit and uploads are 10-20MBit. Starlink upload speeds are better than xplornet's average download speeds so far. Xplornet has 11 hops to the internet, Starlink is 5 hops.

I'm currently getting gouged by xplornet who charges $100/month for 25 down and 1 up service that rarely gives me 50% of what I'm paying for and experience frequent network outages on the xplornet backbone. I see xplornet is starting to promote a 50MB download service for $110/mo and $300 for hardware. I'm guessing that would let me see regular 20MB download speeds.

The writing is on the wall for xplornet.

Just checked our Excede. 19.2 down / 4.99 up which is better than normal 12 down / 3 up.

Hopefully we'll see a successful Starship landing soon. In time it should launch like 400 Starlink satellites at a time.

Beta is advertised as 37 to 54 degrees as of this AM.

My Southern friends are now checking in, so it is definitely expanding.

Where did you find that information?

Where did you find that information?

reddit has various Starlink forums available. Pre-Order placement and actual Beta locations. The mod keeps a running ticker on coverage.

I also have a lot of friends in various parts of the country that do the same type of work, and have the same poor internet connectivity issues. So we are trying to one up each other. So far...sitting at 38.6, I am getting crushed. LOL. And I was fastest on the pre-order. Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I cannot find it now, but on an AM newsfeed, Musk owns 1/3 of the orbiting satellite community already. That's amazing.
