Reclining Chairs ?? Any manufacture make a good one?

I wonder what the local fire code has to say with hidden shortcuts? :laughing:

Do you really think that a store which would have yearly fire code inspections (in Alberta they do) would be able to get away with designing a store against the fire codes? I say this and then I see your "laughing symbol" so I guess there is the answer to my question.

If you are paying attention they are really not all that well hidden.

The modern day "yuppies" just love IKEA!

Not a Yuppie and IKEA was not in our state when we built our house. If it had been, we likely would have bought our cabinets at Ikea and saved a bunch of money. The nearest IKEA is a good three hours from us so it makes a for a long day to visit. Been well worth the time and effort for what we saved in money. Some of the IDEA stuff is cheaply made but other stuff is inexpensive but well made.

Oddly, they were going to build an IKEA nearer to us, but the city that calls itself a town, put in road blocks for the store and IKEA pulled out of the project. The City Town is full of Yuppies. Go Figure. :confused3: That store would have made a fortune.

Yep, they are obvious if you look for them. If the alarm went off and/or lights went off they would be even more obvious.

People do not notice the signs because they are following The Path, aka, They Yellow Brick Road, which holds the customers attention, as it is designed to do. You turn a corner along the path and LOOK AT THAT! :shocked::laughing: One gets pulled along from one scene to another.

IKEA stores are brilliantly designed.

My wife and I have been to IKEA once. We were walking around looking and got ready to leave and we realized we had to either retrace our steps or keeping following the path to get out. We both decided once was enough.

I believe some very early supermarkets were designed this way. Maybe it was A&P?

3 years ago this month, my wife was diagnosed with colon cancer. They did emergency surgery and she spent about a week in the hospital for that. One of her doctors suggested that she get a good quality recliner to sit on. Since I didn't know what a good quality recliner was, I posted the question on FB One of my clients replied that she was going their her Mom's estate and that she had an old Laz Y Boy recliner that we could have. She said that it would make her very happy to know that her Mom's chair was going to a home where it would be needed.

I don't know what a bad recliner is like, but I can honestly say that this recliner is exactly what she needed. It fits her perfectly, it's comfortable enough that she was able to fall asleep in it and get some good rest, and it still looks brand new today. If I remember correctly, it was probably a dozen years old when we got it, so it's around 15 years old now.

I'm disappointed to read that they are falling apart and not what they used to be. In my opinion, based on just this one recliner, it was a very well built chair at that time.

We ended up buying from a company called Best furniture recliner named the Rake beast made USA.The furniture store owner carries ,Lazy boy, franklin,best furniture and southern motion recliners and directed us towards our purchase.Hopefully it will hold up.Chair will not be coming in until late April.Sigh..

There are some moderately hidden marked short cuts sprinkled throughout the store. Once you get used to looking for them you can be through in very little time. Every IKEA that I've been to has the short cuts.

Are you talking about exits? Those put you on the wrong side of the building from where you parked. Not that I ever need to go in one again to find the short cuts if they are internal.

You just needed to go back a few more times. :laughing: You can eat cheaply in the restaurant, get in your exercise/steps walking through the store, and on the way out, buy some well prices frozen food as well as chocolate.

At least at the local mall I can keep my orientation as to which way is north. Unfortunately indoor malls are going by the wayside. I always liked them. Up here is where interior malls started largely due to our often rainy weather

No they are just small passageways that let you miss whole sections of the store. Like if you want to miss the kitchen area for example. I don't remember exactly as it's been at least 2-3 years since I've been in an IKEA.

I have fallen asleep in my recliner a few (okay a number of) times about the time the fire in the wood stove is going out. :mur:

Feed the stove and get it going and head to the bedroom :laughing:

Ikea like supermarket where you gotta go thru whole store to get milk or beer. Really hard on beer drinkers, seen a few need a cold one to get to register up front.

(removed) not exactly welcome in Ikea place. No sign says test napping in recliner is not store's idea of sales experience. I ever go back Ill take my own pillow so no need to ask snotty woman. Mattress store at least knows to put drop cloths on mattress for testsnooze.

I have spent what seemed like forever in IKEA, spend day after day in my IKEA lounger and have slept in it on occasion. I do like to watch the fire and wall asleep.

Seriously, with the lock down and working from home, I sit in the IKEA lounger for most of the day. :shocked: It is FAR more comfortable than the far more expensive chairs we had at work. :thumbsup:

If I had to throw it away today, which I don't, nothing wrong with it, we got our money out of it and I would go buy another.

I forgot to previous mention that IKEA even has a place to take care of the kids so the parents can focus on shopping. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

I remember a story one of the family members at our local Chinese restaurant told me. At the time the store in Portland opened for business, he went there and bought a couch. He went on to tell of the overwhelming store, all things they have and navigating through it all. But when he realized that he would have to put the couch together , that part freaked him out to the degree he returned it. Had to go back in the store..... I think I've been there twice when family from out of town wanted to go to the big city. Quite an organization. The guy who started it just died within the last couple of years. He lived very frugally.

If you read the fine print, Lazy-Boy will void the warranty if you sleep in it.

Had a leather lazy boy 5 years ago and where the leather met my head was toast in less than 1 year.Contacted Lazy boy they stated no warranty for that issue sorry ..

I have the exact same problem with my chair. Within a year the leather started breaking down and splitting. No warranty. We have leather La-Z-Boys that are 15 and about 30 years old and the leather is as good as new, must not be making the leather the same as they used to.
