Any manufacture make a good heavy duty recliner chair anymore?My last 2 recliners flexsteel and lazyboy were junk lasted about 3-5 years at most.

I have a 10 yo Big Man Lazy Boy and I put it through the paces. Just change a spring here and there and it should last another 5 years. 270# and rough.

In a prior life I was in the furniture industry. Brading-Young and Hancock & Moore both make excellent recliners. HM only does leather, BY does both leather and upholstery. Reclining mechanisms are built very well.

Had a leather lazy boy 5 years ago and where the leather met my head was toast in less than 1 year.Contacted Lazy boy they stated no warranty for that issue sorry ..

Many years ago, LazyBoy had good stuff.

Sadly no more.

I tried to tell my Sister-In-Law but she wouldn't listen.
Nothing but problems with thousands of dollars worth of new living room.
They will NEVER do business with them again.

Company called Niagara made my recliner wid 3 vibrating motors and heated back bout 35 years back. Only thing missin is rocker. Fabric seen better days but chair still works good. Fits me like glove. Not like OJ glove, more like loose glove I can get in.

Pretty sure dey out of business.

Ekornes Stressless.....made in Norway, and widely marketed throughout the USA, they are a bit pricey, but really worth it!
Not the big bulky type though.

I got 2 lazyboys almost 30 yrs old we use every day.

I got sucked into a new one 10 years ago. Over $1200 and been broken/worn out for more than five years now. I haywire some repairs and keep it going as a reminder of how stupid I was.

I'm glad this thread came up. My only complaint with my old LazyBoy is it is about as hard to get out of as an Adirondack chair.
But with your description of the newer ones, maybe I will just live with what I have. It still looks nice and sets easy.

Relying on name brand manufacturers as a safe method of buying furniture 'back in the day'. No More. In today's world some still build quality (at a price), but all have junk for sale. To me, that's understandable to in order to compete with the low-ball sellers.

Sadly, LB also falls into that group. I've had LB recliners that lasted over 20 years, and still worked perfectly when I gave them away. But I've also had LB recliners that lasted no more than 7 years but they headed to the garbage dump. The only advice that I can offer is to learn what makes a good recliner, and what's just made for sale.

If you can, shop at a LB furniture store rather than a BB store. I have no information regarding multi-brand stores though. LB has been very helpful in offering that information in the past. Quality does come at a price.

I have a 6 year old power LB near the TV that I like a lot comfort wise but I only end up sitting in it a few hours a week as I always seem to be on the go. There is another old mechanical one closer to the wood stove that I probably sit in more but I have no idea what brand it is.

I have 25 year old Franklin leather recliner that has been great. Comfortable and has held up well however my wife wants to change decor and is trying to push my recliner to the shop or cabin. We have looked and looked and just cannot find another one that fits me.

My Dad was in the furniture design business for 50 years and furniture really changed in his career. At one point high end furniture was designed to last for decades now like many items most furniture is designed for decor and to be a disposable item.

Anyone know anything about Franklin recliners, good,bad or ugly ?? Every furniture store that I contacted yesterday(8 to be exact ) told me if want to special order a recliner it is a 5 month waiting period to be made.How nuts is that ??

Had similar problem wid wife when I brought Niagara here on trailer from auction. I knew wasn't pretty, but truth be neither am I, so perfect match, and I didn't buy to look at. Had plenty her Pennsylvania House decorative crap too good to sit on to look at anyhow.
She said Niagara not coming in house, put her foot down. OK
I got perfectly good plastic bag covers chair on trailer in yard near kitchen door. Got extension cord too.
After supper grab coffee and go recline in my chair. Get some heat & vibes for rest of evening.
4 days later Niagara in living room, her decision. She got slip cover fits it perfectly. "we" gonna recover it together for project. Fine, let me know when you got material. Chair still in living room, still works, still looks same. Wife long gone. Chair was a good investment.
