Here, it's almost universally called a plug. Do you have a plug, where's the nearest plug?
On the other side of the coin. I can't even spell receptacle. And always strapped for an abreviation on labels. Maybe PLUG aint that bad after all.
Well you must have a gud spel-cheker, as it don't come up with skiggly red liens under it.
I think a lot of people call them "outlets"...when they mean receptacle...(most are duplex)
Ummmm, it IS an outlet. Of electricity. If the electricity don't come out, nuthin' happens. May as well plug your cord into the dirt.
By the way, a search on Google (OK, call it The Evil One, whatever) shows up 3.25MM results for "electrical outlet". Additionally, Leviton (just my opinion, but a pretty well regarded company as far as I can tell) calls them outlets. In fact they have a web page with that in the title: Residential Outlets from Leviton
