I think your Grandfather was right on. I have a theory about women; that they are special and should be treated as such; at least until they prove that they don't deserve it. IMHO, there's nothing much lower than a man who mistreats a women or children.

I have acquired the habit of complimenting waiters/waitresses when they give good service, and I do it sincerely. You might be surprised at the reaction you get from them; I get the impression that although they receive the customary tip, they do not often receive a verbal compliment...and for the most part, they take it gracefully with great humility.

Only problem is they seem to no longer teach elocution these days.
Just another cut back, I guess along with home economics and shops, heck when I was in high school they cut all sports so we had a nice big gym that grew moss.

Heck stand on any street corner and try to interpret most conversations.
If you think the English language is suffering you should travel Quebec and experience the local French dialects mostly mixed in with cannabolized English.

We had someone like that. To make it worse, he was in IT, so 3/4 what he said was not understandable to 90% of the people he was talking to. But that's not why we let him go.
