Rant on shipping

I'm still fighting amazon for the $150 refund and the $50 return shipping they forced me to pay. I've resorted to hand written, no spell check letters. First 2, return to sender, address unknown. (that was a good song). So far, 6 months.

I am happy to say that, after 6 months, i won my credit card dispute with barclays. I disputed a $40 charge that morphed into a $350 bill with the fees and interest. Every time I responded that i would never, in my life, pay those fees etc.

Nothing was happening and the fees just kept growing. I took 2 hits on my credit rating so my insurance rates are going up. Try to straighten that out!

Went to some gov web site, filled in some forms, all the sudden, all is forgotten, alls well.

They are ****** and if you don't stand up to them they will crank you just as hard as you let them. I probably spent thousands of dollars of my time, energy, emotion etc. It would have been much easier to just pay the $40

F. them, come and get it!

Now, i gotta go beat up amazon. Amazing, i have friends, male friends that almost worship amazon.

I find Amazon worship by some, to be very much cult like!
I do use them occasionally, but absolutely avoid if other sellers have the same items at equal or (often) lower price.

Amazon, Walmart, you can make a pretty good list of places which some worship while others demonize the same institutions.

I have no loyalty to any one store or business. I go where I get the best value for the current purchase. Every once in a while though, I find that a certain store has a dark history and I start to back away from them.

Yup......same here!

My wife buys a lot of stuff on Etsy. Mostly sewing stuff, material and things. Most of those seller's use USPS. She can literally get an item from across the country faster than she can get an item from a seller 20 minutes up the road. It boggles my mind. I do live rural but it absolutely makes no sense to me how they can screw something up that is so easy. The last item went from Olathe KS, literally 20 minutes up the road from us, to Kansas City MO, spent 2 days there, back to Kansas City KS, spent 2 days there, finally to our local Post Office in Kansas, said it was delivered to a PO box at 9:00 pm last Thursday. Finally arrived at our house the next day in the mail box.

Another item from Illinois straight to our house in 3 days

Another item I had to drive to the local PO for, they couldn't find it, there it was sitting in a BIN to be delivered, no one ever picked it up.

They suck beyond belief.

Now nearing the end of tenth day, for a USPS tracked delivery from 649 miles away.
Nothing in sight yet!

The large answer to the USPS situation can't be discussed here other than to say it has been deliberately slowed down.

   / Rant on shipping #249
I don't subscribe to the conspiracy theory that USPS has been deliberately slowed down. At one time USPS only hired the cream of the crop and gave them thorough training. In later years with federal hiring mandates they have had to hire many that don't fit the bill "cream of the crop". This resulted in USPS being slightly less efficient than in the past.

This year, with so many workers out with the virus and others out because they rather collect the high unemployment check instead of working, USPS had to hire just anyone willing to work as temporary workers until they can get their regulars back. With only the most basic of training, if any, they are not equipped to do some of the more complex tasks at USPS and make many mistakes.

For example, one of my orders is now a few days late and tracking shows that it was routed to zip 70002 instead of 70072 which is the post office our mail is sent to to be delivered to our local post office. Simple and common mistakes like this by new workers can delay mail for several days while it is re-routed. To say these actions are deliberate instead of just mistakes by careless, untrained workers is just not facing reality.

Sounds kind of like a bribe.

Hardly a bribe!
It simply means that you should do your buying where you get good service, and avoid the others.

I get that a lot of stuff isn't so important that it's gotta be delivered on Sunday, but the delivery services are being swamped this year, way more than normal. Not likely they'd be able to deliver everything M-F.

I've been seeing a lot of ads past few days by UPS looking for temp workers to deliver using their own vehicles...$20/hr, plus 57.5「/mi. and a cell phone stipend per day (not sure what that's about). Don't think I've ever seen that before.

GPS???

You look at de volume any carrier moves in a 24 hour day it's amazing they succeed as often as dey do.

Probably a Utube4boobs of FedEx Memphis hub but I never looked for it. Dang spagetty bowl of conveyors wid interactive humand Frank Smith put together der. Even got cages ssome places wid signs "Unsafe for human entry" cause robot in cage not human friendly. Post office & UPS got similar.

Post Office got an extra feature, 89 day wonders. Employees who know dey got exactly 89 work days to down de road. No benefits & no rights, might get to come back another 89 in different job, might not. Not exactly good way to build a work force, but dat how Post Office works.

Dey have got whole lot better den back when employees were all Congressional approved for hire, dey wore old Army uniforms and every package had to be wrapped in paper and properly tied wid string. Dey also pissed awaay most der package business to UPS. Still got too many politicians friends in management.

I've mentioned this before, possibly even in this thread. A few years ago I purchased a wrench for the breech plug in my BP rifle; just a long 1/2" steel cylinder about 9" long, machined on the ends. At the time USPS had tracking and you could tell where your package was at all times. I watched it leave Florida and come up the eastern seaboard, moving right along. Then it got to a distribution center in Massachussets and it stopped. For a full week it sat there... then started moving again and arrived in my mailbox. I've always wondered if some sensor or dog kicked it out because of the shape, business of origin (gun shop), or maybe a dog who smelled gunpowder residue.

Probably fell off conveyor and got found during weekly flor raking. You lucky label still on package. Post Office got baggies dey put rest f rakings into to ship on to people dey find addresses for. Dey got pallets dem bags at sorting enters.

Don't think I've ever known any "worshippers", though I do know a few Amazon haters. Never got that. I'm with you...I'll buy from them if they have the best price, and will usually check there when I'm in the market for something, but their prices aren't always the lowest.

Speaking of Amazon, I've noticed they're offering something called "hub lockers"...apparently a space at a local business where you can have your order shipped to, and can pick it up at your convenience. Ordered something last week, and that option came up...just for grins figured I'd try it. Should be there end of the week.
Might be an option for some of you who have problems with delivery companies.

I'm not sure, but I think the "hub deliveries" are not free.

Unless there's a fee charged when you pick it up it seems to be. There was no extra fee at checkout, and the purchase was over $25 so I got "free" shipping.
