You just need the total capacity these days. Network and server appliances are smart now...they will give you what you need up to what you pay for Just like today's cloud....

Starlink can link everyone anywhere to the internet, doesnt have to be perfect but it must be useable I lknow there are experiments on going with balloons that also provide free internet hotspots but only when in range-aka google balloon, aka Loon.

Not sure if it's still a thing, but they were using balloons down in South America, for military comms. Up here in North America, they were trying to use them for Internet.

It's called Bandwidth Exhaust and happens quite frequently on DSL Systems, fiber, rarely.

If I recall correctly, I remember in the early days of DSL they said that dsl would not slow down as cable would from heavy use. Now it sounds like that was fake news.

This covers a lot but I am posting it since not everyone understood the mega successful test flight of SN8 this week and its implication for Starlink rollout planned for mid 2022.

The fact they got the SN8 to turn around and start rocket burn is a huge success.

I found the landing to be very dramatic ending. I'm guessing the lack of pressure in the landing system caused the engines to burn incorrectly and start to eat themselves, you can see a bright green light indicating copper burn. Now we just need to see the next version.

DSL doesn't slow down as much as cable does. It slows some in peak times, but not as bad. Main reason being that the TelCos don't try to cram as many people on DSL as cable companies do. Also, most on DSL are only using data while cable is trying to cram in video. Or better said, cable is a video service trying to cram in data. DSL is designed for data on unused voice lines.

What? DSL uses the same pair of wires for the voice as it does the DSL, the DSL is just at a different frequency. Dial tone out of the CO for dial tone, then that runs through the DSLAM and then out to the cable pair to the house. That's why you need filters on the phones. DSL can slow down just as much as cable if the pipe feeding the DSLAM is at capacity. Back to my funnel analogy.

FWIW...It's actually possible to get data with just a single wire...
