That big sales pitch about LEDs lasting forever is bogus when they drive them so hard to be bright. Same fairytale holds true for household florescent lights. 'they cost more but last 10 times longer.... NOT.

maybe i spoke too soon about the Whelen light. i removed it to send it back to factory in Connecticut, as they emailed me back that they could fix it. just for the heck of it i opened it up to see if i could find out what was wrong. i found this 20201207_091631.jpg 20201207_091723.jpg

it was obviously not soldered on correctly, so i thought what the heck, lets fix it. i am not the best with small electronics, but i do own a soldering iron. i repaired it and what do you know, it works again. bright as ever.

while it shouldnt have popped off like that, at least im not out a bunch of money for shipping, return shipping and repairs. it had a 5 year warranty, and thats ended awhile ago.

As good an ending to your story as you could have wished for. I hate throwing stuff away.

Not exactly you're typical snow weaponry

I have 200' of that. We had a wet snow on a bare metal roof, then cold. Usually a job for the SS but I have it in the shop for some maintenance that I need to finish.

4" of sticky snow here. Plowed my FIL's tar driveway and end of mine with my truck. Used the Kubota bucket for the rest of mine after the snow froze up as the driveway is not tar and of course is not frozen solid yet. Did not lose power but it did flicker. Others in town lost it.

A light fixture that will see all the vibration of an automobile probably should not have Surface Mount Connectors on it. I designed PCBs for 30 years. Started years before computers.. CAD/CAM

Maybe not, but Whelen has been manufacturing such lights for a lot of years...successfully

I'm thinking about adding one of those strobes atop my 4052...
