Just saw the son leave for the second time this morning.... apparently there was a long line waiting at Walmart at 7:00 am, he said he wasn't going stand there in 20 degrees.... they just left to go to Ace Hardware.

68°F and .02 inches rain

Likely watch some football today. Put up the Christmas tree and whittle away at my other holiday obligations.

Think I need to make a dump run.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Nieces wedding was good today. Although with their luck it almost didn't

Here's the back story..

Niece and her husband tried to do a destination wedding in Florida back in April. Two days before they were to get married, the venue called them and canceled due to Covid. So they enjoyed their honey moon stay down their but never actually got to get married.

So this morning, the judge who was a family friend who was gonna perform the ceremony called...... and canceled do to an illness and not feeling well.

They were able to scramble and thankfully an uncle who is a minister was able to step in and perform the ceremony.

It was a great ceremony with a comic ending when one of the kittens that was running around (solid black) decided to invite itself into the ceremony and decided the train and vail of the brides dress was the best thing to play with

The kitten exited stage left with a quick toss by the maid of honor

Glad the wedding came together, no fun for them having to change at the last minute.

31F and cloudy @ 12:00, headed up to a high of 35F.

Squirrel feeder empty so it will need refilled. Seeing some corn on ground below the deer feeder ... so it looks like they might have located that.

Need to unload toilet and tile out of the van.

Beyond that probably try and get water supply to old toilet shut off so it can be removed out of bathroom. The valve at the toilet is hinkey and partially froze up ... and the valves that feed the hot/cold water supplies for the master bedroom bath, basement bathroom, and outside faucet in the back are totally froze up ... "froze" meaning seized and won't turn, not actually frozen.

This will involve shutting the water for the entire house ... which is likely to have The Woman snappin' and poppin' ... and will send her into a conniption fit.

I plan on having her start boxing up all the extra clothes and junk she's been piling up in the guest bedroom, now that we've have accumulated enough boxes to pack all that up. Sweep out back of van and load it all up so it can get taken down to Good Will.

If I can get the supply lines shut off, might see about pulling the vanity out of the master bedroom bath as well.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Sunday ...

Good Morning!!!! 49F @ 5:00AM. Partly cloudy skies. High around 65F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
Rain still showing in the 10-day, but not as much as was there yesterday. Power company still saying lots of folks'll be in the dark come Monday and Tuesday.

Only one CoVid case in the whole country, Doug? That's amazing! Did the authorities impose a travel ban, and if so, when did it take effect?

Usually that kind of firewood, Kyle, comes with a pretty high price tag. I can see a fresh piston not having much compression, especially if there's only one ring. BMW is somewhat notorious for supplying rings with big end gaps, so I don't think that would cause the problem you're seeing.

Good to hear things going smoothly with the pickups, RS. I have two or three versions of those endoscopes here, and they've saved punching big holes in the wall/ceiling several times already. Also helped me find mouse damaged wiring on the van, and confirmed a healthy gearbox on a motorcycle or two. Just be sure to put the password for their WiFi networks in a safe place so you don't lose it...

Oatmeal raisin, one of my faves. But I miss Mom's almond balls dusted in powdered sugar the most, especially the ones with a candied cherry in the middle.

Thanks to the contractor's guidance, the work on the new solar panels went smoothly and so far it looks like the array is making about 20% more power. Still selling back to the grid more than I use, which is nice considering we're closing in on the shortest day of the year.

I'll put a dent in that today when I fire up the welder and grinders to do surgery on the new oil pan for the van.

The neighbor's steam cleaner has a couple of issues, including a bad fuel pump. Could also have a bad flow sensor, which keeps the controller from pumping Diesel into the burner to heat the water, but he needs to fix the fuel pump first. I did get an arc going on the new-to-him TIG welder, but couldn't get him to try it. He's afraid of getting shocked, and wants to read up more on how to avoid that.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend...

I posted a situation in the New to grid tend solar section about having no solar power when our power was shut off last Thursday, the third, and am trying to find a way to not just lose a days production. A utility worker I asked said that the solar needs a.c. power to make it work like an exciter I guess. He said that if you have a battery system like the Tesla power wall or just use a portable generator properly wired into the system it would work. I have a new old stock 6000 watt gen.set that I plan to have set up as soon as the local electricians can catch up but am wondering how this can work. How can it handle the excess electricity without sending it back to the grid and possibly killing a line man. Following your adventures I think you or David are the only people I know of that can explain this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Yup ... it almost has me inclined to respond with their request to leave some feedback on how it went.

Almost ... ;)

Will do ...

Can see that they would be pretty handy.

Yup ... Grandma and Mom both used to make the almond balls ... was to die for. Never with cherries though.

Woman picked up some Archway Oatmeal Raisins last time she hit the store.

One of my favorites: Archway Date-filled Oatmeal. Sadly no longer made ... :(

Good news on your power production ...

Good afternoon, too late in the day for me to tell you what I intend to do, which is just as well as whatever it was I planned didn't get done. I seem to have run out of both time and daylight before best intentions got a look in :confused2:

Wng, I put quite a few wild cherry in some years ago when restoring the hedges. They must like this soil as they have grown more like trees than hedge plants, far outpacing everything else and need cutting next year. Now you have told me it makes such good firewood I will cut some of it earlier and save it for campfires with grandkids. Thanks.

Mine sprays weeds, so a keeper.
No snow
I do the grilling.

Funny you should say that, we are just the opposite.
Whenever a plant in the garden looks sick, my wife keeps grilling me about where I have been spraying weed killer :confused3: :)

Good afternoon! 39˚F at sunrise and 60˚F now, clear skies.

Was in Rosenberg yesterday for a family function - it was wet - they have been getting our rain, 6" the last week. visited my nephew on his new mini ranch. He already has 2 tractors and two riding mowers and the house he bought already had a huge tractor shed. He just got finished moving a storage container on a slab. He would fit in good here.

Johns Hopkins: U.S. Death Rate Remains Normal Despite COVID-19

The total number of all deaths in the US is remaining the same.

Even though John Hopkins withdrew the research article A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19 - The Johns Hopkins News-Letter
JH is still leaving up an access to the research article. Interesting numbers game. But it does make you wonder why there were not are no more total deaths in 2020 than there were in 2019 or 2018.

Favorite wood to burn is Post Oak. Smells like BBQ. It's also the wood used at award winning Snow's BBQ in Lexington TX.

Those almond balls sound interesting. anyone have a recipe? Bet they could adapted easy to be plant based with almonds and dates as the main ingredients. The spices are always the secretes to the best recipes.
