I am trying to understand how you figure 1/2 cord per tote. most totes are 275 - 325 gallons and 300 gallons converts to 40 cu ft which is nowhere near 1/2 cord?

Yes, I figure about 3/8 cord NEATLY stacked in the tote. Love using totes, going to cut new doors in a couple this morning.

Is that face cord or 4x4x8 cord........ Never heard of 3/8 cord.

I came up with 0.4 cord. Based on how many it takes to fill my woodshed (so averages across several totes).

Face cord I think is a New England term, or maybe not. No, I meant 3/8 of a full cord or if you prefer 0.375 cord. I think I'll just toss it in instead of stacking, 3/8 is a little heavy for my little tractor.

The tote idea is interesting and if you stack high enough you can get more per tote. Although it does seem you would lose a lot of woodshed space using totes if you put them in a shed. I never thought the white plastic the tote tubs are made from would stand up to UV sunlight if you used them as lids but I do not know that for sure.

That seems to be the standard answer. A lot of places here are selling firewood in those... no given size, just "This is what you're buying."

You have to do a good job of stacking to get .4 and that just takes a lot more time.

If you do like most, you won't ever get it...

This will get you very close to 1/2 cord:

To answer the question of UV resistance. Most of mine are old and the places that use them do not store them indoors, so I am not too worried about UV.

And I think Rick is a southern term, he got voted off the island last year. Wonder what the term is out west or upper mid west for 16"x4'x8', maybe its called a 3/8 of a 4 wheel wagon load..........

I dont think my little tractor will lift your 3/8 totes at all..
