54°F and cloudy with some rain this morning, going up to 60° today. Temps are supposed to keep warming overnight tonight, pushing us into the mid-80s tomorrow. Record high is 86°, and we should get close to that. Then, back to highs in the 50s and 60s for the weekend, and 40s and 50s next week.

Did some little things around the house yesterday evening before retiring to the studio, which was cut short by rumbling storms moving through the area. At one point, even the racks in the oven were rattling with the thunder. Fun light show as well (although, our one border collie didn't care much for it, cowering on the landing at the bottom of the stairs).

My laptop has been giving me fits lately, too, Mostly_. It's about seven years old, and in spite of my best efforts to keep the drive clean and organized, it's just getting slow, and always bogging down with updates because I use it so infrequently. May be time to get something newer, possibly SSD.

well, I'm sure not going to do much shopping at the McCaffreys in town, must be like Whole Foods, wowsa was it expensive. Gorgeous store, if you weren't paying any attention
to cost, which many folks around here apparently don't have to, it's like the Mercedes of food stores. I'll be sticking with Giant...which in itself is way bigger and fancier than Food Lion down South.
If Giant was 15% more expensive than Food Lion, McCaffreys had to be 50 percent more. I think about half the store was organic which likely explains a lot.

now waiting for two little meat loafs (well actually NOT meat loafs since they are vegan) to come out of oven. Will report if they are edible. I used Heinz chili sauce on top as a glaze. I also forgot to get garlic so substituted a small amount of curry instead, and skipped the sea salt.

Vegan Meatloaf (Easy Lentil Loaf)
This Vegan Meatloaf is a delicious vegetarian main entr馥 that will impress your guests! Made with lentils, walnuts, and oats, it's hearty & filling!

Ingredients
Lentil Loaf:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 large onion , chopped (about 1 cup)
1 carrot , chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1 celery , chopped (about 1/2 cup)
2 cloves garlic , minced
1 1/2 cups cooked lentils (green or brown; see notes)
1 cup quick-cooking oats (certified gluten-free, if needed)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
2 tablespoons tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
1 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh)
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
freshly ground black pepper
Glaze:
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375ｺF and line a 9-inch by 5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper. (I like to use a spray oil on the pan first, so that the parchment paper will stick in place.)
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil, onion, carrot, celery, and garlic. Stir occasionally until softened, about 8 to 10 minutes.
3. In a the bowl of a large food processor fitted with an "S" blade, combine the cooked lentils, oats, walnuts, flax, tamari, thyme, cayenne, salt, and several grinds of black pepper. When the vegetables are tender, add them in, too.
4. Pulse several times, just until the mixture starts to stick together when you press it between your fingers. You don't want it totally smooth, for the best texture. (See the photos in this post for reference.)
5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared loaf pan, then press firmly to pack it together. Stir the glaze ingredients together and brush it over the top of the loaf. Bake uncovered at 375ｺF for 30 minutes.
6. Let the loaf cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes, then use the parchment paper to easiliy lift it out of the pan. Slice and serve warm.
7. Leftover slices can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, but the leftover loaf will be a little more dry in texture when you reheat it, so you might want to serve it with gravy for added moisture.

Good morning, had to admit defeat and turn the light on in the kitchen in order to make a pot of tea. Our clocks go back this weekend, even so it is that dull this morning that I doubt it would make much difference to a day like this.

I ordered 1000 litres of tractor diesel late yesterday afternoon. The local supplier is very reliable and only a couple of miles away, but even for them this was quick service as they were here at 8:00 am. Fortunately I had remembered only five minutes before to pour in a biocide as a preventative against diesel bug, much easier to ensure it is thoroughly mixed in if it goes first into an empty storage tank. In years gone by diesel seemed to last indefinitely, that has certainly changed since the addition of biodiesel.

Does anyone else treat their diesel ? I am more cautious after others have had problems, I suck out any water from the bottom of the storage tank each year with a vacuum extractor and spend the extra few pounds per year on a biocide 12 diesel bug treatments tested - Practical Boat Owner

Eric .. We treat our bulk diesel with Power Services Diesel Kleen year round and typically use about 600 gallons per year of off-road diesel.



It rarely gets really cold here but .. Power Services does offer a winter product with anti-gelling additive.




We have a Golden Rod Filter with a "water block" cartridge on the bulk tank outlet.

Tractor's ready to be delivered once the rear wiper kit (which was delivered to the shop yesterday morning) is installed...really hope to see the machine in my drive this afternoon...crossing my fingers...

Roy .. I suspect you'll REALLY enjoy the cab this winter .. like we enjoy ours in the hot summers.

ordered two wool area rugs and one polypro from Amazon yesterday, three for the price of one at local store. Wood floors in this rental in poor shape, really need sanding but that isn't
going to happen any time soon, so covering them is best solution. Yesterday I was all domestic with the mop 'n glow, wanted to get that done before the rugs went down.

my new blender showed up yesterday, has both a full size and a glass size container.

Going to get some frozen fruit at supermarket today and start experimenting, have my kale and ground
flaxseeds to mix in, neither of which I hope I can taste.

My bananas are now soft so I'm also going to bake some of those banana oatmeal cookies I read about, only the two ingredients, though I will add raisins, vanilla, maple syrup and flaxseed. Next batch I'll use cranberries instead of raisins. I really need to print out some recipes so I'm not guessing at proportions. I usually wing it and that doesn't always work well. I do remember I'm supposed to soak the oats in milk for ten minutes.

To get me off my addiction to my Splenda/sugar mix which goes in my first cup of coffee in the morning,
going to try a Stevia/erythritol mix. Very expensive little bag of sweetener, hope it works.

Saturday is now confirmed for my trip down to brother's home in Markham VA, to pick up all my winter clothes and whatever else is in his basement for me.
Going to rent a 6x12 Uhaul trailer and pull it behind friend's awd Ridgeline. Probably about 3000 gvw so should be fine for his light duty truck, rated at 5000.
Need to reserve the trailer today and pick it up Friday afternoon. Since most of what I'm hauling is clothes and artwork, a covered trailer is a must.

Good morning to all! I am starting to hear redundancy from myself now.... low of 44, high 77, no rain.... however, the forecasters are getting excited about an arctic cold front coming down the Rockies. Our prediction for next Tuesday will be a high of 44, possible snow / rain mix. We will see...

Yesterday's voting excursion was a bust.... seemed like the entire southern half of the county residents decided to go to the polls.... there is usually no lines whatsoever. We don't know if it was just coincidental timing, but just drove through the parking lot and came home. We'll try again today or tomorrow. We watch our grandson for the rest of the week, so a little more inconvenience to go.

I was able to get a couple more planks glued up, only 2 more to go. Then the fun begins.... running them all through the planer. It makes a big mess, throwing small chips and sawdust everywhere. I have to make up some kind of collector for this project.

Ron, beautiful pic of the cardinal! I too, wonder why they haven't taken up residence here out west.

Roy, the anticipation must be building now that you know the delivery is close! Pics please!

RNG, too many clamps? I was already thinking of getting some more! Can never have enough clamps..... I only have 14.... I was thinking around 24 would be sufficient......

Good morning. It was 71° and foggy this morning ..heading to 87° this afternoon.

I spent most of yesterday on the Kubota zero turn .. mowing around the shop and the horse barn. I ended the day .. with a flat tire and managed to get it back to some flat concrete to change. Went to the shop, grabbed portable compressor, impact wrench, socket, and my HF 1 1/2 ton jack. I bought a new wheel / tire, a few months ago, when I thought I had a unrepairable sidewall puncture .. so I just swapped wheels. I'll figure out what happened to the original later today.

I'm going to put my tree / post puller on our 55 HP tractor this morning and take out some posts for a neighbor sometime today. He's removing some crudely built corrals built of 10' portable panels with treated posts set between panels. They were built by the previous owner. I get to keep all the 10' galvanized panels I want. New owner want to build a barndominium right where the corrals were.

Ted .. I built a rolling cabinet for my Dewalt 735 planer.



The Dewalt has an internal chip blower that I can hook it up with a 4" hose to dust collector




or sometimes .. I just roll it outside and do cleanup with a leaf blower.

I had a dust collector when I had the shop back east, but sold it with a big shaper, 48" drum sander, and big Table saw. I didn't think I would ever need any of the big tools anymore..... a big regret ever since! I have been thinking of making one of the DIY dust collectors out of 5 gal pails and a shop vac. Then I look at the HF collectors that are really affordable at around $200. Then I say I'll just make one.... no wait, I'll buy it..... rinse and repeat....

Currently, I aim the powered discharge out the garage door.... half of the chips swirl back into the shop, the wind usually creates a vacuum blowing past...

I NEED A BIGGER SHOP!

Continuation at caretaker unit. Think I have placement of main door and kitchen window. Have to be sure before I start cutting the container, but there are things I can do before actual cutting, so will have a bit of time to recheck my thinking.
