Depending on what you are talking about for pars, I usually estimate what I need then multiply by 1.5. It's 20 miles to the nearest hardware store and if I don't use them today they will get used another time.

When doing a task that involves hardware (screws, nuts, nails, etc.) or connectors (wire nuts, crimp splices, etc.) always have more on hand than you expect to need. You will invariably drop/lose or damage at least one.

and, no matter how many you have, the right one won't be there.
