Do you fly the Stars and Stripes?

I have the flag and the pole but I can't decide on the right place to put it at the house. It will come to me. I fly the flag on my boat. I really like it. Funny thing. I kind of don't like to see flags flown from cars and trucks. They end up looking dirty and tattered. I sometimes see flags lying on the side of the road.

Each 4th of July for many years the Model A club would participate in the town parade and then there would be other occasions such as Treasure Island Military Base.

Flag holders in place on front bumpers we would be on our way...

Due to angle flags only visible on my pickup and not on my sport coupe to the right...

I did manage to get the Treasure Island Flag...

I thought ol' Henry said you could have any color you wanted,...... as long as it was black!
BEAUTIFUL VEHICLE !

After 911, I had two little American Flags flying on the front hood corners of my GRAVELY walkbehind.

Thank you... it was a complete basket case... I could put my hand through the rusted out cowl panel...

Did every nut and bolt from mounting the tires, rebuilding the drivetrain, body, paint and upholstery... As a commercial vehicle it should have a painted black radiator shell, headlight buckets and cowl band but I went with passenger car Stainless Steel and it buffed right up.

Always a crowd favorite and the array of American Flags for the 4th of July parade just complete it.

It's no garage queen... been to Home Depot many times and has hauled home eight 60# pound sacks of concrete, tool cabinets and even a dishwasher... in a pinch towed a stalled modern car off the San Mateo Bay Bridge once... only wish I had a picture... lots of thumbs up on that one!

Mom's flag is 60 years old and flies all flag holidays... is is a little faded but she insists on keeping it.

A few times I have told people "Let me come back with my old pickup"... they just never imagined 1930 old LOL

60 years old? she must have bought it to replace her old one, which only had 48 stars.

You guys are good... that is exactly what happened!

I still have my dad's 48 star flag. We were still flying it in the 60's. He finally got one with 50 stars.

Mine is up 24/7 and lit from dusk to dawn.

Thats the way to go. I'm pretty close to that. Bring it in most nights.
In my area now, it has become a " symbol " that is perceived negatively by a certain group of very hostile, violent people. Houses being targeted for vandalism that fly the flag of our once great nation in nearby communities. I live at the end of a private farm lane. Just a few of my neighbors and delivery people see it. So not too worried about my house being burned down.

Come to think of it somebody in my family has my grandfather's 48 star flag. I can't remember if it's at my brother's place, or in one of these boxes in the back of my closet.

Friend from work dropped by pre-covid and commented about the flag attracting the wrong kind of attention... it is a consideration.

Living in a neighborhood of well seasoned citizens and being the kid has only brought positive comments...

On the 4th the grand daughter of a neighbor up the street was enamoured by the flag... she was walking with her grandfather.

I have a nearly new staff mounted one and gave it to her... they both were very happy...

A few days later he returned it and I said I meant for his grand daughter to take it home... he said his daughter in law thought it unwise...

Same here. 30' with a solar light on top that has worked well for over 2 years.

Lots of commercial flag poles coming down... tried to score on several occasions but they were going to salvage... all aluminum in front of eateries and banks...

Probably would have made for a good post in "Share Pics of People Hauling or Towing Something Wrong" with a 30 or 40' aluminum pole strapped to my truck lumber rack...

I installed a flag pole at each and every school in our district (10). The American Legion would sell us flags at cost and also decommissioned them properly when faded or tattered. I stipulated only US made flags.

A few years ago my Mate from Brisbane got me a flagpole for my BD and we erected it. Unless it's super windy (like today, 50k+ wind) I fly the Aussie flag. I've now got an 'angular' pole down by the entrance to the property that I fly appropriate 'occasion' flags (Christmas, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day).

Got a collection now of flags to fly under the Aussie when needs arise... Tassie State, QLD State (for when that Mate visits) and an Australian White Ensign that replaces the Aussie on ANZAC Day/Remembrance Day.

Sad, really sad.

I've got 4 flags flying at my place. A 5x8 US flag on the 30' tall flag pole in the front yard, a 3x5 flag on a flagpole mounted on the front porch, an 18" flag in the garden by the front door and a 12" flag by the mailbox. I also have an 18" firefighter red line flag by the front door and a 3x5 red line flag under the 5x8 US flag on the flag pole. So I guess that's 6 flags. Once my new barn is done, I'll mount a flag on the side of the barn too.

I just need more flagpoles too. I have my 4x6 USMC Flag and the Alaska Flag in 4x6. With the heavy winds these days, my existing pole can't handle more than 1 flag at a time.

The shame of it (at least around here) is the cowboys that think flying the flag gives them some sort of unique status and therefore they can justify being total jerks.
We have ours out on holidays when appropriate. And I can still remember what my mother said about having a flag on the front porch while her brothers fought in Europe and the Pacific. They came home. Many did not.
