Need to remove tapered tie rod end on Kubota M7040

One big whack with a big sod off hammer, with a bigger one behind will do more good than loads of little taps.

For sure, the OTC tool is good. Only doing a once in a while job, couple of hammers properly used will do the trick. Working in a dealership for years, flat rate of course, sometimes it took more time to find the tool than just give the knuckle a thump with a hammer. Other times, space restrictions made the tool necessary.

Just in case I do tear the tie rod rubber boot, a new one is over $40. I guarantee it won't rip on my watch.

What?... Universal parts don't fit your tractor?

Dale
that would be odd. remember, tractor makers, as well as most other manufacturers buy common stock parts, rather than having to manufacture all the parts themselves, it saves them money, and time, and factory space!..

I'll keep that in mind when I need parts for my E-350 MB.

I'm the OP and the job is all done and all finished. I had a mechanic friend come out and pound on the casting but nothing happened. I sort-of stopped him because that casting the tie rod went into looked line a million dollar part and I wasn't going to break that. It's easy to say whack it as hard as you can with a sledge hammer but it's quite another when it's your own part.

The tie rod came out with a truck sized pickle fork and I did tear the rubber boot. Dang it and $43 but that's life. Tractor now handles much better and life is good again.
