Good morning!!!!

61 degrees going for a clear and sunny 80 today. Last year when my wife got her eyes checked and new glasses, they told her she had the start of cataracts. Sure enough, this year they said she needed to go to an eye surgeon. I had cataract surgery on both eyes 9 years ago, so I guess it's Margaret's turn. So yesterday, we saw the same doctor who worked on my eyes and heard of something new to us. He said one of her eyes isn't exactly round. I told her I always knew she was a little lopsided. Anyway he said he could do the usual surgery, but was afraid the results might not be satisfactory because of that eye not being exactly round. He said the only option would be a special custom lens that our insurance won't pay for. I asked how much and he said a total of $1,500, so I told him to proceed. So now she has an appointment for later this month in that doctor's office, but with the people who will built that lopsided lens to fit.

Bird that sounds familiar to what we are going thru with Sophie. Apparently why hers was a floater. Sophies 2nd ophthalmologist recommended the special lens but it was back ordered and then Covid hit. Apparent alternative is to anchor the lens with a stitch, but not every ophthalmologist is trained in it and it wasn’t until Jun she got that and still recovering. Contrast that with her sister whose Dr did the anchor right off and seeing never had a day of problem just normal recovery. Covids played a real downer roll in her case causing delay. My only advice would to ask enough questions you are satisfied. Best of luck to Margaret.

A milestone of sorts. More than a year ago, I built a platform placed at end of the bed for Kalani, but she never used it on her own, only if I guided her, my hand on her collar. Still better than lifting her. Kekoa never used it either. But now with Makani I put it back in place a couple days ago and tried to show him how to use. Well this morning I’m sitting near end of the bed getting dressed when next I know the little one is on the platform then next to me. Then he used it to get down as well. 🥳🥳🥳

Our dog has a set of steps to get on the bed, cats use them too.

Sassy has 3 steps to get on my bed. But cries or barks to get me to put her back on floor. Took awhile to get her to use steps. Not having steps in my house. She has problems when we visit a place that has steps.

Whipper's ramp to the truck's back seat comes tomorrow. Her claws already tore the door seal. Any idea's if it can be fixed or is a new one the only way to go?

I'd try some 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive, in black, Don. Clean the tear really well with alcohol, and then Dawn dish detergent and water. Let it dry overnight, then apply the glue to both surfaces, let it tack, then push the two sides together. Probably last longer than the rest of the seal...

What we do for our furry ones !! we purposely designed this house to be wheel chair friendly so the bed step is really the only one here at main house.

Kekoa never learned to jump into back of the truck. When he was a puppy I was already lifting Kalani in and out and being a puppy he was just too little. By the time he was big enough, he did it once, surprising himself, now just sits and waits to be lifted, but he does exit himself. Kinda hoping Makani will figure it out and teach Kekoa.

Has turned into a rainy morning.

Watched the Community Meeting video this morning, and I wasn't encouraged. It seems that with all the other fires in the North State, they're very pressed for resources, the terrain is very steep, the air is either too windy or too dirty to fly, the excuses want on and on. They seem to be planning for the fire to jump CA70, which I suppose is a good thing that they're preparing, but if they can't stop it there, it doesn't seem likely another fire break is gonna stop it, either.

The only bright spot is that I've seen two weather forecasts now calling for a chance for rain starting a week from Saturday, but all are cautioning that it probably won't be much and is likely to be accompanied by winds, which we definitely don't need.

I'm going to stock up on dry goods at the grocery, and be prepared for another round of evacuations. I still plan to stay here, even after watching a series of videos covering the Camp Fire in painful detail.

I would like to add to my fire fighting wardrobe, and could use some advice on a helmet I can wear with a full face respirator. I'd also like to pick up another Nomex pant and shirt combo, something more appropriate for wildland fires than the city stuff I have now. Should the trousers have draw strings at the ankles to keep sparks out?

Website links would be appreciated.

I will try this thanks. It is hollow in the middle, but maybe I can get the edges to stick.

You don't really need drawstrings at the ankles but something for the ears is nice - maybe a helmet with face shield and ear flaps. The long back of the helmet is good to keep sparks and hot water off of the back.

If you could find a piece of fuel line or other small tubing or a straw to put inside that hollow, it would help keep the edges aligned and give it some support...

PJ, sorry to hear about the bad detail job! I had one of those years ago and swore I would never pay for a detail again.... and I haven't!

Yeah, I was waiting to see how this one turned out for her before committing myself to one for my car. Looks like I'll just be doing it myself next week during my time off.

She had a bad experience at another detail shop (also in Highland) several years ago as well. Took the first Sorento there, and got it back missing all the floor and cargo mats, and with both of the front seat recline latches broken.

While talking about this last night, I remembered a chiropractor I went to in the late '80s who had a Ferrari 308. He always took it to the same detail shop in our hometown. Got it back once with a nice, neat crease across the front cargo compartment cover. They'd apparently let a new guy clean it, and he didn't know he was supposed to release the latch before trying to close it, tried to force it, and bent it right through the middle. That was painful to look at.

Forgot to say Happy October! One of my two favorite months.

Thomas, one of my older trail cams died beyond repair, so I got another...a Browning since I like the quality of your Boo pix, and had pretty good luck with an older model. I placed it out in the front yard for last night as a test...sure enough caught that skunk on it that ran under my shelter the other night....all black except a white spot on its head (target). I took Coco out for a walk at 5am, about 2 hours after the skunk was there, and she definitely smelled where it had been digging.

... When game cam no longer also switching to Browning, wireless game just doesn't work for.
Good to read Coco recovery quickly. :)

Like RNG said, I used that method for over 40 years in both body shop and upholstery/trim shop, I used a length of properly sized vacuum hose inside. Have done them with nothing in them but it’s a little trickier. That 3M will hold forever.

I was thinking a straw or tube also, I'll see if it's round or oval. Maybe some play dough.

Took truck to work, to haul some stuff home from son’s apt after work. Started raining on way there after work, and while we loaded some stuff in the cab.
So didn’t haul anything big in the bed. Then on way home the rain didn’t last, could of waited 10 minutes. Then took a rock to the windshield on the interstate, huge chip in it.
