I saw a log splitter once crashed into the guardrail along a 70 mph freeway, looked like it might have come unhitched.

I have a woods that is rated to (supposedly) 45, but it only moves in my utility trailer or around my woods attached to a Kawasaki Mule. I couldn't imagine driving on the road with it behind....

My Champion says not to exceed 45 as well. But I only move it around my property behind my JD L110 mower. It won't go 45. I would never tow it on the road. If for no other reason I have ADHD and would forget it is back there a since you can't see it and backing up would go bad. I forget my big trailers are back there. But one glance at any mirror reminds me. The only time I never forget I have a trailer is at work. Because I almost never drive the tractor without a trailer. But when I do I sometimes forget I don't have one. But all that happens from that is I look like a fool taking a corner wide or setting up a back.

Every new splitter listing I've seen at stores says not for highway towing in some for of those words.


My Blue Big Box store entry for today (of course no picture) ..... Standard sized pickup truck, bath vanity or kitchen counter type cabinet standing up, but laid over against the side rail, maybe 45 degrees, then a doorwall type thing leaned over the against the cabinet. I wasn't so concerned about any of it falling out, but was wondering what the chances were of it getting home with the glass intact.

I've towed a log splitter before with those tiny tires and no suspension and it seemed to spend half of its time in the air, on Michigan's bumpy roads. So, I guess if it is airborne anyway, speed doesn't matter. :laughing:

I think that I'd be at least as concerned about the bearings as the tires. The only thing mine get's towed behind is my ATV.

I built the little HF 4x4 trailer with 8" tires for a camping 'jeep trailer'.

After watching it dance on the first trip I went to a tire chart and saw only 24~28 psi was recommended for the light loads I used it for. Much better behaved at freeway speed!

It doesnt matter what speed they are rated for........

Its hitched to the truck so it will keep up with the truck!

I've always wondered how much use it was to chain down an excavator or other heavy tracked vehicle. Looking at this trailer rollover, I guess that I have my answer. (It helps)
