During hurricane season I keep two to three drums filled, my backup gen mep802a will refill itself from a 55 gallon drum bung hole pickup. Why so much, one time no cell or electric for 22 days and trying to find gas was dangerous. I had neighbors using my garden hoses to take showers. Hopefully now I'm over prepared.

Just ordered 2 of the battery operated fuel pumps on Ebay for $13.38 total. I had bought some off Sears from their shipping only sellers for $7 or $8 last year and went back and it said they were ebay sellers so went direct to ebay and ordered. They work fine but the top switch breaks apart when you drop them on concrete but cheap enough to keep spares and extras. Harbor Freight has the same ones for around $8 if one wants to visit their store with 20% coupon in hand.

Don't you just hate it when things are made cheap? That is, made for price instead of quality?
I'd always prefer to pay more and get something better. Wouldn't we all?

Make up a fuel cart. Here is a really simple but good transfer pump...
Electric Fuel Transfer Pump Diesel Kerosene Oil Commercial Auto 12V DC w/Nozzle | eBay
It even comes with the nozzle! Here is a pic of the cart that I just made for one.
I just got my pump in yesterday off Amazon. It's about the same as yours except it came with a transparent hose and replaceable filter and filter mount. I also ordered a flow meter and a 30 gallon barrel. I plan to use a bigger wheeled dolly since mine will be used outdoors (no pavement/concrete).

Anyway...I haven't connected mine yet but was wondering if your nozzle shuts off automatically? I got the same nozzle but also have a commercial version that does shut off. I hate to assemble something then take it apart again to change something.

I haven't let it get to that point.... I usually watch it and turn it off when it gets near full. It has the little clip to hold the nozzle "on" , like a regular type gas station nozzle. I really don't know if it will shut off by itself. If you find out, let me know

pay more and get something better. Wouldn't we all? Obviously not since there are thousands of sales of cheap items vs the sales of same purpose expensive items in almost everything. If I'm going to use something regularly and expect long term service I go for better built "stuff" but other items that I evaluate my usage and expected durability sometime the less expensive item is the smartest choice so the answer is no we all don't do as you stated.
My brother asked me about buying cheap or expensive tools one time and I told him to buy the cheapest he could find since they would look as good hanging on his wall as expensive ones since he never used them. Later in life he started doing some work with tools and I told him a new game since he had changed his behavior and was now using tools and to start buying good tools instead of the el cheapo stuff.
I bought box store riding lawn mowers when I had smaller yards but when I went to a hillside gullied rocky steep 5 acre yard I bought a 4wd bucketed Kubota diesel (tractor) mower. I bought cheap when cheap would do the job but when it wouldn't I bought more expensive or bought more durable which was more expensive by about 8 to 9 times as much dollars. PS More expensive isn't always better quality but usually is.

I went with the hand crank, it moves a lot of fuel, and lets me crank backward and suck the fuel back out of the long delivery hose.

Heck, I paid $300 for a Fill-Rite (Tuthill) 12 volt ..8 gallon /minute pump in June of 2016. It looks like the pump has died....out of warranty of course. The motor just hums and blows the 30 amp fuse. So far I've cleaned up the connections, but don't see anything else to "fix". Will try it again in a few days. I have not contacted the manufacturer or Agri Supply yet.

Guess I'll be back to lifting 5 gallon jugs....or ....doing it one gallon at a time.

Cheers,
Mike

Call the company and ask questions. They are first class.

My B26TLB has the fuel cap in the center of the hood also. What a pain. I also have a BX2230 with a loader. I bring the BX up to the B26TLB's right front tire. I use a old style gas can, no fancy nozzle, stand in the BX's bucket and aim for the fuel spout. Sometimes my aim is better than others. If the BX is not available, I can do the same with the tailgate of the pick up. Worse method is leaning a 4ft step ladder against the loader arm to crawl up and pour. I like some of the suggestions here and need to figure which way is best for me. Jon

Such is yet another reason why I have not bought an electric transfer pump.

Do you have the link for the Amazon pump system. One I saw was at least twice the price of the Ebay one. Thanks. Jon

After enough years of agony I just ponied up and bought a 12V pump and an old 200 gallon tank. I keep the tank in the barn on a roller platform and added Stanadyne fuel treatment.

From the old days, I learned the best way to fill tractors with a fill on the hood was to get a simple plastic step stool and a fuel can with the two grab slots like the current one sold by Rural King for $12. Replace the can nozzle with the plastic ones that flow easily and I rarely spilled any. Step up on the stool, grab the can and it's over quickly.

Thx everyone.

So far, imho, the quickest, easiest, cheapest solution is putting the gas cans in the raised bucket and use a hand syphon pump.

Summers over, finally stopped raining. 2020, a summer tp remember!

This is one I have: Amazon.com: Electric Fuel Pump 12V 8.25GPM Transfer Waterproof Leak-proof Pump 9 meters(3? feet)conveying distance Oil Transfer Extractor 6m whole tube DIY is Avaliable(With Nozzle+Hose): Automotive

My 30-gallon barrel came in Friday. I wasn't expecting that until next Friday. I also picked up a dedicated dolly at HF on Friday. I have all the parts now but it may not have it assembled and filled with diesel until Tuesday.

Siphon may be fine for some but I can't even lift a 5-gallon jug to even move it now days--Bad wrists and RA fingers. I'm able to use a fuel nozzle and can handle a dolly. That's all I need. :dance1:
