Good Morning!!!! 76F @ 4AM. Partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 99F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.
Yesterday's Fire Weather Watch has turned into a Red Flag Warning, all the way through Tuesday morning. We're to expect dry lightning again. 12,000 lightning strikes over a 72 hour period last week led to over 560 fires, many of which are still burning.

I had a similar woods behind my suburban house growing up, Drew. Maples, oaks, beech, and sycamore trees, with a few pines thrown in here and there. A little stream ran through it, there was an abandoned grave yard with headstone dates from the late 1800s, and behind it were a golf course and a junk yard. Oh my gosh, the adventures we had! While I was away at college, they bulldozed it and put in condominiums...

Noting worse than being treated like a doddering old fool just because you show a few wrinkles and some gray hairs, eh Eric? Let'em think that, then let'em have what's comin' to 'em, I say.

That little woodchuck could do with a dose of lead poisoning, RS.

Seems like recycled railroad ties would be less expensive and hold up better than PT, Thomas.

Are parts available for Instant Pots, Don?

Took a look at the solar panels yesterday, and there's no ash to be seen. Plenty of rain splashed and dried dust on 'em, though, and am thinking maybe I should give 'em a good hosing. Have to do it early morning before they heat up too much, though.

EDIT: Almost forgot. I fired up the generator yesterday and let it take the A/C loads, which only amounted to 4.5 kW. Only a quarter of its capacity, but it's the best I can do. Let it run for twenty minutes, then shut it off; on and off with two button pushes, easy as pie. Controller was configured to not sell power to the utility when the generator is running, so maybe next time I'll turn that option off to see if it'll put more load on it. Have to be careful not to load it too much, though; I don't wanna light up the whole neighborhood!

Got another certified letter from the county yesterday, threatening me with abatement if I didn't sign up for their tree removal program. They're forcing people to remove fire damaged trees that might fall onto public, and private, roads. There's an abandoned road that runs for about a hundred feet along one edge of my property that leads down to an equally abandoned boat launch. I suppose there could be a tree or two that might fall onto it, but it's private property! It's not an easement on my land, and the county says it's not theirs to maintain. The county wants Right of Entry papers signed to let them come in and look for bad trees, then remove them. Or they say I can remove them at my own expense. Don't understand how they can force anything on private land, but without hiring an attorney, how am I gonna fight 'em? So I spent yesterday afternoon wading through their paperwork, and ended up signing ROL papers for the inspection part. But I hand wrote and initialed requirements that I be present for the inspection and that I agree to the date and time. Then I'll decide what to do based on what they find.

Took another shot at scratch pizza last night, using a jar of spaghetti sauce and a package of pizza dough mix. The dough didn't come out as nice as the last recipe I tried, and it stuck ferociously to the aluminum pizza tray it cooked on in spite of a heavy dose of corn meal under it. But what little I could pry off was crispy, and the flavor was quite good. Next time I'll use the recipe again, and try rolling the dough out on floured cloth instead of the plate. Maybe that'll keep it from sticking. What I'd really like to do is get it to slide off the plate and onto the pizza steel on the BBQ. Now that would be a crispy crust, as long as it didn't stick...:licking:

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

70 going to 89...returning back to August. No rain for over 24 hours!

BEF, nice what you did with your dad. Good for your spirit as well.

Had some dogs running back in the woods about an hour or two ago...probably running a fox or a deer...hope they don't run into that mama bear with the 3 cubs. Also got a pic of big daddy yesterday. When I stepped outside I could smell the faintest odor of smoke in the damp air...wonder if it is from the west coast...probably not. Yesterday I saw a weather map in motion that showed the path and density of the California smoke as it moved east...covering up almost all of the country to Kansas.

I spent a couple of hours digging accumulated sand and pebbles from my bridge that were creating a small dam from the rain storms. Used it to fill in some low places on the path. Ground still too soft to run any equipment without the risk of creating some ruts. Plenty else to do.

Don, I have 2 Cyberpower UPS's. 1500 and 1000. 1500 is hooked to modem, router and desktop computer. Other is hooked to cable box and other TV stuff. Both have worked very well. Only needs to keep things running until whole house generator is running. Your Ring Doorbell went down because router lost power.

I will have 3 things plugged into the UPS, 1. router,2. Phone booster (m-cell), 3. weather system receiver. I think I will go with the 1500VA/900W Amazon.com: CyberPower CP15AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS System, 15VA/9W, 12 Outlets, AVR, Mini-Tower: Home Audio & Theater

Ron have you had to change out the battery?

RNG, at some point I just have to say goodby to a well used Instant Pot that starts to use it's emergency pressure reliefs. I did look in the troubleshooting guide and it was not too encouraging.

If you put parchment paper under the pizza it will not stick.

No change out yet. First one that Amazon shipped to me was defective. They sent me a new one. Told me to keep bad one. I saved the battery. Need to install it to get a charge on it. I have no any idea how long it can set on shelf before it goes bad.

Good morning to all! Again, no weather changes.... well, a big downdraft / outflow gust yesterday afternoon. Kicked up a bunch of dust / dirt for a few minutes, along with an 8 inch rain.... one drop every 8 inches. Just enough to put brown spots on everything.

I got the shelves built yesterday and installed one that covers the dryer vent hose. Turned out good, wifey is happy. Another one to install today and hang a couple of pictures. I am going to run the vacuum through the hose for the wifey. She has had really bad back pain the last few days and is having problems walking / standing.

Then maybe out to the shop to start working on a portable fueling station cart. I found the pump, hoses, and nozzle on Ebay for a whopping $60.... it has the same nozzle that TSC is selling for $80 by itself. It will be nice not to have to lift a 5 gal can to head level anymore. I want to make a metal frame with wood shelf inserts, that way they can be easily replaced.

RS, the hosta relocation project looks like it is going good... I would bet that critter is the trimming culpret....

Ron, neat yard ornament, the rock couldn't be a better shape or color.

Rng, thanks for posting the link for the fire map. It is crazy out there.... we heard on the news that some of those areas have not been managed / cleared / burned for over 100 years. That has to be some thick vegetation. Seems like a perfect storm ....

Gonna get myself in gear and get moving....

Everyone have a great day!

Ill see if I can fit you in between the bike riding and the soaking in the hot pools afterwards.
But there is a problem. I'd have to spend 14 days looking at the walls of a hotel room in quarantine when I get back.

Forget it, that's too much torture!
Be well,
David
