Re fire starter. Sawdust will sorta work but is not as aggressive as shavings from a planner, jointer, shaper, or good ole hand plane.
The chips from a well sharpened chain saw if left to dry in the sun and soaked in diesel and yes used motor oil will work too.

Although we graduated from wood heat to geothermal in the house 12 years ago I still burn wood in my shop and in my opinion, there’s nothing better than to treck out to the shop on a blustery day with my K9 buddy and depending on the time of day, a cup of coffee or an adult beverage, pull up the comfy ole desk chair next to the stove, lean back and contemplate my next project.
It’s the ultimate in senior safe space.

After searching for 2 years, I finally found a used logging winch in decent shape for reasonable money.
A guy in the next town over posted it 3 days ago and I jumped right on it.
Hooking up was helped by the 3ph telescoping lower arms.
Norse 450. Good size for the 6040.

Congrats. Patients paid off. They are hard to find. That will open a whole new world to you working in the woods. Work safe.

Thanks for the good wishes.
Working my woods without a winch has meant just been nibbling around the edges and not being able to access much of the timber.
The winch will open up a lot more woodland once I cut some carefully situated skid roads into the depths of the woodlot that I can use to reach otherwise inaccessible trees
That will be a job in itself as much of my land is sidehill and ravine. Should be an interesting and fun fall just prepping the woodlot.
