Re fire starter. Sawdust will sorta work but is not as aggressive as shavings from a planner, jointer, shaper, or good ole hand plane.
The chips from a well sharpened chain saw if left to dry in the sun and soaked in diesel and yes used motor oil will work too.
Although we graduated from wood heat to geothermal in the house 12 years ago I still burn wood in my shop and in my opinion, there’s nothing better than to treck out to the shop on a blustery day with my K9 buddy and depending on the time of day, a cup of coffee or an adult beverage, pull up the comfy ole desk chair next to the stove, lean back and contemplate my next project.
It’s the ultimate in senior safe space.
