Very good point. I suggested to him that if it were me, I would witch the tank to Diesel and forgo the large oil sump, as long oil intervals are not a factor, if cooling was otherwise apporopriate.

There is a 400 watt oil heater, red device,, on the front. The hose is just stuck on a shaft that is sticking out.

that little magnetic oil pimple heater wouldnt heat that much oil ... kinda a waste. I had one on a 1 gallon oil reserve tank....made it a little warm and ran all day in winter.

I never had much luck with those, and they are quite expensive for what they are.

Yes, never seen them last more than a year. One of the small standby gen assemblers here used to put them on all their air cooled units to be code compliant but they’d either burn out after a year or get the oil so hot in summer it would turn to molasses.

If you really need an oil heater, you need an immersion heater with a thermostat.

Good to know. I guess adding a two dollar thermostat would double tha already high price. Always a challenge when you have an air cooled motor.

relatively cool morning for once so exercising the rv's Onan/Cummins 3600 propane gen.
As always, started up after about two seconds of cranking and runs smoothly. Disconnected campground power,
turned a/c on high and cold and going to run it for about fifteen minutes to warm it up.
Gen only has 5 hours on it...and so far has never been really used.

In about six weeks I'm heading North to Bucks County PA for good, moving back to where I grew up and worked, and will rent a home there.
Will be nice to have rv so if power goes out, I can always use that for a few hours. Sure not going to spend 10k on a whole house generac on a rental home,
but might consider a home interface box/transfer switch and a 7500/9000 Honeywell or Generac. Prospective landlord is very flexible which is nice and I'd only be adding a "feature" to his rental.

generator running smoothly, only vibrates this small (25') motorhome slightly, and relatively quiet in hush box

Lots of folks checking generators here in CA this week with expected rolling blackouts due to high demand from days of 100+ weather...

Sounds like a good plan d.

I think propane is an excellent fit in an RV application. Often those gens get run little or none - using a fuel with essentially zero stability issues and you have on-board already .

In a Home Depot this morning big pile of about 60 Dewalt-labeled 7kw generators. After last year I thought everyone in Northern California would already have a generator but guess not.
