I was in my Meijer store this morning and got the non-conformist checker. She rotated the carousel toward me and not away from me. First time as I recall. Maybe the training didn't take. :laughing:

Exactly!
People go there for the lowest priced products sold by the lowest priced employees.
Manufactured in a country with the lowest regulations and lowest priced labor.
Unfortunately, this has evolved so that now in many places, Walmart is the only department store in town.

We have a pandemic, people rioting in the streets, kids getting shot, and the concern here is whether the Walmart carousel goes cw or ccw?!?
I think the answer is simple enough. Most people move slow, so if clerk fills a bag and turns it towards customer the clerk has to wait for the sloth to load it before filling the next bag.
Going the other way filled bags are coming to the sloth to load, and it may be 30 bags of beer, red hot dogs, cheap hamburger, cookies and all the other nutritious items that sloths buy.

Seeing as I have/had no bloody idea what this 'carousel' (other than the amusement ride with the painted horses) thing is/was... MossRoads's diagram was much appreciated.

Mind you, I still have no idea why these are employed in the first place. I've never seem one used here in Australia.

From the internet, here's a checkout station at Walmart. The carousel holds the plastic bags that the checker puts stuff into, then rotates it so you can put it back in the cart.

Other stores use an out-feed belt to run the goods from the checker to the bagger. This method eliminates the need for a bagger and requires the checker to do the bagging.

Too bad that they didn't plan ahead and have the darned thing out, written, and signed instead of acting like they didn't know that paying was the next step after getting rung up.

SWMBO does that, gets everything then fishes around in her bag/purse/pockets for her card, it annoys the crap out of me as everyone glares at ME not her, she went out yesterday and did something similar, went through a takeaway drive through and didn't have her purse with her, so much for lunch.
