Tell me what you see here?

I watched this a few times and was stunned at the quality of work here. Do you see the rebar being tossed around like toothpicks? Rebar NOT tied, not put on blocks.
Look at the curb work ZERO rebar until he shoves some in. No rebar box formed or tied.

How do people get away with this?

Is it me?

I don’t know why you’d bought using rebar without putting it on chairs. I didn’t know people still used those end dump trucks either. The concrete in the floor was too wet to.

- Looked pretty watery compared to the stuff we put in over the last month.
- Did they compact that stone and sand?
- Would that rebar do anything laying on the bottom like that?
- Did anyone notice when they were pouring that 8-10" wide thingy later in the video the guy moving the concrete around with his gloved hand? It looked like gray water.
- Also, call the police on the little kids playing in the sand. There's not supposed to be any fun on concrete jobs.

The latter would be dependent on the former...

I hate to think what the slumps was on the concrete, way to wet, and yes the rebar was a waste of money.

Let's just agree he got the quality of job he paid for. This is right up there with the bimbo (can I say that?) home renovation projects you see on the Home & Garden T.V. shows.

Not enough information really...the cement to water ratio is a factor...to me the mix looked not much wetter than what would be used in a pumping situation...
Basically being indoors is also another factor where the evaporation level would be limited...

OT for the finishers...:D

You ever see that joke youtube clip about the guy poring a slab right over the grass.....weeds and all. Was pretty funny.

The dirt is so rocky here you could probably get by with that.

Three weeks ago I couldn't even spell Kontractor. Now I is one.

With no bisqueen/rolled plastic sheeting being placed between the fill dirt and concrete being poured that moisture is going to be pulled out of that concrete pretty quickly so I don't think it was to soupy .

Reminds me of the concrete contractor with a supposed affection for children. The kids mess up a job of his. His exclamation- "I like children, I really do - in the abstract - not in the concrete."

What I saw in the video is the only question I want answered is to know how I can video myself and have others pay my bills for me!!!

Put a smile on your face and have people like you, and they give you money via youtube if you get enough followers? Kind of like a low end HGTV show?

There are some additives you can add to concrete to make it flow better and look wetter but not lose it’s strength. I doubt that is what is going on here.

"bisqueen" = visqueen?

I agree with most of the comments. I use chairs, but if they did, they would have been blown over and flattened by the weight & velocity of the concrete. I do agree that without plastic, the water from the mix would be partially absorbed by the sand, but it still weakens the mix. I would have edged to the slab with treated “ground hog forms”, drilled holes at 2’ centers (or whatever centers are on the prints) and place rebar tips in them. When I do a slab like that, I use chairs and then put a blob of concrete at each chair to proved more support before I let the driver turn it loose. Keeps the rebar up in the proper level. Low level Concrete contractors like to water down floors because they think it makes their work easier.
In a southern non frost climate, that concrete job will probably hold up to light use, but I’d be afraid of shrinkage cracks due to excess water. In my area, or should I say under my supervision, concrete would never be done that way.

Wow!
I would expect that floor to crack and move quite a bit. No compaction of the subgrade, wet mix (too great of a slump), improper placement of the rebar (spacing is way beyond code), improper curing, and did I see a cold joint in there?

I've seen truck washouts with more slump than that...

Am I the only one that saw the rebar piling up ahead of the chute?

If you missed that part, go back to the pour when the chute guy is swinging the chute across the back wall of the shop and watch the bar under his feet.

There are contractors that don't use chairs. I Droned a pour a month ago without chairs. They told the owner they would pull the bar up into the concrete as they poured. They did not.

I've never saw a contractor not tie the bar. That's a first for me.....

Also didn't see any method of leveling the pour. No screed pins. Didn't see anyone with a transit. But a lot was missing in the video. Less talking and more working might have helped with these issues.

Surely they didn't just screed over the bar piled in the corner....
