thanks PJ. I saw both types there thought it was something new. Electrostatic membrane speakers were the cat's meow way back when,
but windscreen makes more sense. Nothing worse than reporter in a hurricane where you can't hear anything...

Here's the one I have in my home studio. It's made by Middle Atlantic Products and it is mounted to the mic stand on a gooseneck clamp in front of my Russian-made Oktava Mk-319 large diaphragm condenser mic.

I remember the EM speaker craze, too. A local high end audio store in St. Louis (Hi-Fi-Fo-Fum!) used to advertise the daylights out of the Magnaplanar speakers ("Maggies") on the local classical music radio station.

80F @ 22:30 and clear.

Just finished up the last of the Lamb Vindaloo ... made that last for three dinners ... :licking:

Saw a Downy Woodpecker on the suet feeder today, along with the Northern Flicker and a Blue Jay. Also saw some house finches (first time this year) out on the nyjer feeders, along with the gold finches. And Mr. Cardinal at the hopper feeder.

Got the Northern Flicker nest box drilled, sanded, screwed together, and the first coat of boiled linseed oil applied to everything except for the top lid which needs a slight adjustment on the back edge so that it aligns perfectly with the bottom portion of the house. Also found some hinges for lid and brass screws to attach it.

With, and without, the unfinished top lid:

Had originally planned on using 3/4" EMT conduit as a pole to mount it to ... but it is a heavy sucker (almost 30 lbs) and I don't think that is going to work. Probably go with black pipe instead.

Got the compressor in the garage fixed ... if it doesn't get run a lot, it may not end up being an issue ... but we will see how long the polyethylene tubing lasts ...

Also got the temporary mealworm feeder (old cat food can and zip tie) put up for the bluebirds and two roof panels cut and stained (5 sides) with boiled linseed oil for the permanent feeders. Sat there and watched them for a while bringing food and feeding the nestlings. Don't know that they discovered the feeder before I packed it in and headed back down to the house tho' ... will see if there's anything left in it tomorrow.

Took a plastic pan with a couple of mealworms in it down and set it out for the Phoebe. Didn't see it take anything out of it though. Will check tomorrow.

Last thing I did before I knocked off for dinner was severely prune the middle blueberry plant and work some peat moss into the soil on it and the one plant on the south end and give them both a drink. Will get the north one tomorrow.

Have a good evening all.

Jay, glad your upright. Sorry to hear about your wifey's BP med issues. Prayers it gets better. My 15 yo daughter actually has been quite depressed. She actually went for a ride with my buddy and I to go eat....so I took them to a country restaurant, in Winchester Texas. I worry about my daughter, she's really quiet. She does not initiate conversations (partly due to shyness). Just doesn't have that "gift of gab" yet.

That bear and I would have problems. Paintball, fireworks, pepper spray....and if he charged me, some lead poisoning.

Ron, beautiful flower pictures....and bluebirds too.

Riptides, beautiful view. BEF too with the drone pics. Bef, you really do have a place "carved" out of the woods.

PJ, I really like your music studio room.

Mostly, your 80 miles in the heat astounds me. Do you ride the "Hotter than He ||?

Time for bed...except for Eric who'll be waking soon and Sodamo who is probably having a nice brewski.

I thought the heat today felt pretty good ... but I'm not sure about "80 miles good" ...

RS Sounds like a lot of water per plant must be very dry.

It's been a while since it's rained here ... but I suspect they won't need to be watered again for a few days ... ;)

you need the run around fays to feed the productive days :)

True dat ...

fish were mostly white crappie with a few channel cats and black crappie.

No longer a floater: water level has dropped and it's ran aground on a step.

And the frogs are having a field day picking off the flies ...

Lucky frogs!

As a young man in my late pre-teens, I had a woods lot to roam around in with my trusty Crossman 760 BB rifle. I also had a subscription to Popular Science, and in those days, there was more than one company advertising fireworks fuse, casings, chemicals, and recipes. I quickly figgered out a dodge around the parental signature, and discovered the joys of silver salutes and M160s. One day among the beech trees, there manifested the most horrendous stink my young nose had ever encountered. Turned out to be a groundhog corpse floating in one of the bowls formed by the roots. Didn't take long to come up with the idea of blowing it up with one of those M160s, after all they were made with waterproof fuse and seemed perfect. Took a bunch of deep breaths, got one stuck in there real good, and lit, then retreated around the other side of the tree. Not long after there was a tremendous roar, and there was nothing left of Mr. Groundhog except for an abhorrent mist. Unfortunately the other side of the tree turned out to be down wind, and next thing you know, that mist coated everything around it, including me. After I overcame my initial gag reflex, it wasn't really all that bad. At least it wasn't until I got home. Mom made me strip off in the garage, and I'm not sure I ever sat that particular t-shirt/jeans combo again. I couldn't really tell her I'd blown up a groundhog without ruining my fireworks connection, so the slow flowing creek in the woods got the blame.

I feel sorry for kids these days that will never experience the joys of home made fireworks and airborne groundhog guts. Then again, judging from the shenanigans going on now, maybe it's for the better, as not many of them would have survived intact.

Spent some quality time with the new trimmer. Wanted to tackle some particularly thick and tall overgrown areas with the blade attachment. Did really well. I’ve had the small gas trimmers bog down more. Wife was impress how quickly I tamed it. I can see where the plastic blades could be severe overkill in normal grass. Next time intend to replace the blades with the double line option which I suspect will be our usual configuration as neither of us like bump heads (never seem to work).

good morning all.
Happy July 4th!
75 out going up to high 90's today, ugh but should be good for picnics, in the shade.

Buckeye, gorgeous property, I think your pool is where I'd like to be today.

RS, nice woodworking, do you use linseed oil as final coating? Wondering how weatherproof it is. Nice grain on that wood too.

had my coffee and bagel, all is well with the world.
looked through an article on best inexpensive places to retire outside of US and also in US. Woodlands in Texas was one mentioned. Also a nice beach town in Maryland half an hour from my good friend in Delaware, where they don't tax SS. No matter what, I need good health care within a reasonable driving distance so that is always a consideration. Plus I want to rent to start, and always looking for a home on at least an acre with some woods around it. Don't think I could ever go back to a townhouse due to noise and privacy. This is my plan for after I get out of assisted living in PA. Everything is way too expensive in that area unless I lived in a pretty undesirable area or got very lucky finding a cottage on an estate. Researching this gives me something to do...

Hope you all take some nice holiday pics and remember to keep your distance from relatives. Most of my friends are staying home and kind of bummed out about it.
We just don't seem to be making much progress here, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be flickering.
