I agree, if you travel roads very many hours, you encounter too many drivers that do to many stupid things that put them and others at greater than needed risk. There is no need on today’s busy highways to have the added risk of several drivers racing in and out and through traffic that is on the road. There are enough risk without adding racers into it!

I agree 100% with your opinion that such inconsiderate sports have no place on public roads. Same can be said for the Iron Butt Rally and so many others, of which I've participated in before. I'm quite sure that there's not a single person on this site that has never broken a speed limit.

Races on public roads such as the Cannonball or Iron Butt, and many others, have no place in today's world, at least not here in the USA. Public roads are simply a major hazard at best. Adding in the extra "I gotta go fast!" factor is a recipe for disaster, and soon. Innocent people are killed. Those are simply not a test of skills, but a proof of lack of judgement.

Sure - movies like Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit, were humorous, setting aside the danger they posed for others on the public roads. But let's not allow those fiction topics evolve to reality.
