Tractor
Mahindra Max 28xl HST
Hi, I am the new guy from North Central Arkansas. I own a 2014 Mahindra 28xl HST. I am having an issue with my tractor. When it is running it starting losing RPMS sometimes to the point of stalling. It has a new fuel filter and the fuel pump sprays like a healthy heart. One thing I have noticed is that the fuel filter bowl starts drain faster than it fills when the RPMs start dropping off. Does the Max 28xl have an in tank filter or screen other than the fill screen?

Hi you either have a plugged fuel cap vent or diesel fuel algae in the fuel tank, I don't know if that tractor has a screen in the tank.....

Thank you so much for your input. I suppected the vent so I removed the fuel cap and it continued as described. I drained fuel into a mason jar and it didn't show any signs of alge but I am still not ruling that out. When I removed the fuel line to drain some fuel it just sort of trickled out. That is why I was wondering about a in tank filter or screen.

Sound like you have an in tank screen that needs cleaning.
That's the same thing I am thinking. Now I just need to figure out how to remove the tank.

I don't think there is a screen in the tank it shows one in the fill neck part number 7 , Take the hose off the inlet side of the filter and see how fast it drain out.....

If you can get the line off the " in " side of the fuel filter, blow some low psi compressed air back towards the fuel tank. If that temporary fix helps with your problem, it might be a good indicator that there is algae buildup on the tank filter. At least it will buy you some time to get another filter, and get it changed out.

Sure sounds like some crud blocking the in tank filter screen.
While algae is one possibility it might just be accumulated dirt from dirty fills over time.
I for one always use a fine mesh funnel when filling just to avoid such problems.

I had a wasp in a tank once. It would only happen at certain level and it would come and go. It was floating over the outlet line and took flashlight to see it. Was fortunate as it was simple fuel tank you could see into not an offset fill as many are. So trash can be in there you don't expect.
