I just received a safety recall notice for my TC35A today. The letter states the reason as a component malfunction in the PTO brake may result in the loss of PTO brake funtion.Your New Holland Dealer will remove and replace the brake stop plate. To qualify for free parts and labor under campaign 000250 contact your New Holland Dealer. Has anyone else recieved this letter and does anyone know what all is involved in making this repair.

I received the recall notice today for my 2004 TC40DA. It basically says that there is PTO brake malfunction and needs to be replaced. In the meantime it says in the bold type "DO NOT Operate the PTO on this tractor" and "Failure to follow the warning in this letter may result in serious injury or death". I contacted my dealer and he says that as soon as the new parts come in they will start to replace them.

They are only sending recall notices to people who actually use their tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

...didn't get one either. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Evidently the newer tractors have a PTO brake/clutch that is even weaker than our older models. Since the PTO brake is the same on both gear and hydro transmissions, it's not surprising that both types of tractors are mentioned here. I just wonder if it's all the A/DA models or just a few serial numbers. Can you imagine what a job it would be to have to split every new Class III tractor out there? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We'll all be watchin' this one. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Thanks to the posters for making us aware of this. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Pole; Could you give us the numbers on your recall? I didn't get one, but I've had some small problems with my DA, ones I had to fix BTW, the dealer didn't have a clue. Therefor it wouldn't surprise me that my machine is included in the recall. Might not make sense to most, but I'm just a little paranoid about my DA so far. My cruise was acting up, and I have the nuetral switch problem. These are things I feel the dealer should have caught during prep but didn't. Makes me wonder what else they may have missed. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The recall involves the replacement of a PTO stop plate and does not involve splitting the tractor. Repair time should be 1-2 hours according to CNH.

Jim if I use it, I'll wear it out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Since this is an externally applied part I'm wondering if those that are not mechanically challenged might be permitted to make the addition themselves., yes, no?

Pine,

Because this is a safety issue I am sure you have to be "qualified" Not saying your not qualified but I bet New Holland will say no. Just my opinion that is all.

Well! I finally qualify for something! I feel so er, lucky.

Got the notice just last night. Have model no. "TC35S4", Serial No. G5251xx.

I've run the punk out of the PTO on a 6 foot RC, and it runs smooth as butter. I sure hate to take it in and let them monkey with it and have it come back worse than it was. I'm tempted to take my chances with the "SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH" option.

The stop plate is internal. The flat rate allowed is calculated with typical corporate optimism;most dealers will eat some time on this, including portoins of many pickups and deliveries. the time may be attainable by a proficient tech doing mulitple proceedures. I believe we have 12 to do which is probably less than 12 percent of the total Class III/IV tractors we have sold. Don't know much more than this right now. Looks like these campaigns will be done in the bay next to me, not in mine /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I talked with my New Holland Dealer today and the service tech. told me they were going on site to make the repairs and they would need to pull the one rear wheel off and it would take about 1-2 hours to change the plate.

I don't have the info here so I can't check. I had better not say without being sure, I try very hard to post factual info here. Except on the oils & lube forum. Facts are not necessary there. If you are the original owner, NH does a very good job of notifying all owners within an identified group. I will try to post the serial number range next week.
