Toilet paper

In a pinch Baking Soda works.

Yep, and I have also used standard table salt. After a few days of skimping though, there's nothing like a good old tube of toothpaste. (so he looked and looked, until he saw a great Zeke!)

When we ran out as kids, mom put baking soda and salt in the palm of our hands and told us to get our tootbrush wet and make some paste and brush! And she stood there and made sure we did!

Been there, done that... last week.
But can anybody tell me what toothpast commercial the line of my previous post came from? I can't seem to find out.

Went to the store today (Wal Mart). got most of the food items I came for. Couldn't find any wax beans (wife likes them). Couldn't find the slice ham brand I always buy, sold out but there was another brand, so bought that. Didn't need any paper towels, but they had a pallet full of them.. Just one brand, but some to buy. BUT the toilet paper, two side of the isle, Huge 50 foot long several shelves high... It was like a canyon it was so empty. Not a shred available. It would have taken half or more of a semi trailer to fill those massive shelves. I don't know if they ever have any for sale or not. Been bare every time I have come to town recently. I guess someone has a clean hiney. Glad I don't really need any. I wonder if the Johnny Carson thing is still lingering down there in the cultural memory. Gotta wonder why people do it.

We have 3 major stores in our little town. Aldi, Coles and IGA. Also have a SPAR shop not far from home. Usually one of them has loo paper so not a problem yet although the shelves have been empty at times. No problem with milk so far but hand sanitizer is impossible to find. Funny because we have always carried it in our car, one in each door pocket. Now it seems everyone that never bothered before suddenly has to have it.

Went shopping for the in-laws last night....

No TP or paper towels. Aisle is probably 60' long. Just a couple dozen boxes of Kleenex is all that's left.

I went into our little town to the one large store to pick up a Rx and see if they got TP in . . . the shelves were empty but when I commented to the gal at the pharmacy in the store, she said go up to customer service they have some there behind the counter, yay!

HOOOHAHHH!!!!!

Didn't really need it just yet, but with the amount of stupid dunning rampant, I figgered I'd grab it while I could. Lots more on the shelf too, but only that one brand.

I got really lucky today-went to BJs to find a temp thermometer as a last resort because no one else had one-not even all the drug stores and pharmacy's. I couldnt find one at BJs but I noticed people had 36 package of berkley jenson tp - big rolls and a package of 36 big roll bounty paper towels. I moseyed on to the back of the store and I actually laughed for joy. They only had two pallets with about 8 packages left each one for tp and one for paper towels. I brought one each home and disinfected the packages with lysol. Now-all I need is lysol and we are sitting pretty (literally) for a year now.

Oh yeah-I actually found an old tongue thermometer and was tickled pink when I discovered it used the same batteries as my hearing aids...overall a great day.

My theory on the TP "shortage" (which is not actual, just on consumer shelves).

In everyday pre-COVID-19 days, most people spent more than half their waking hours away from home.

Point 1- Waking hours is the time when TP is most likely to be used.

Point 2 - Many people are spending all their waking hours at home

Point 3 - Most businesses use predictive ordering based on average usage. Most homeowners buy TP (and most other products) when they are getting low, or are afraid they might be getting low.

Therefore, with more people being home, with their Just in Time inventory management, store shelves tend to be low/out because much more is going Direct To Consumer.

FWIW, we have not had any trouble with our normal/conservative re-order policy/procedure.

Could very well be... I get asked a lot if the Hospital has a stash of TP

In all sincerity... I have had to lock up the toilet paper along with the gloves, masks, disinfectant, face shields, etc.. can't leave out the lobby hand sanitizer unattended or it will be gone.

Except that the toilet paper hoarding started well before people were staying home.

Well I'm back from my weekly 'In To Town' venture for mail & supplies.

Everything on my list was available + the petrol price has dropped 9 cents since last week. There's a whole lotta social-distancing goin' on but everyone is taking it in stride with a smile on their face.

I've mentioned before that my grocery store has always had TP, and quality stuff too. Just not the plethora of brands & # of rolls in a package that were available before the current situation. Well today I looked and, yes, there was plenty of bog-roll on the shelves... only today it was "my brand" :cool2: Now, I've got 7 rolls at home, which is plenty for me for a couple of months... but it was "my brand", so I picked up a package.

They only had it in '18 rolls' though... I felt a wee bit self-conscious/embarrassed buying it.

I sure hope so. If there are nocturnal emissions, there is another problem looming

Bought a new upright Freezer today.
Now I have somewhere to store my toilet paper....

Maybe you'd better put a lock on it. And I wouldn't be bragging online about your good luck in the toilet paper department, these are desperate times. :D

I know what you mean. When this first came about I was getting low and needed to stock up. I normally buy a 12 pack and they had a couple in stock; but I bought the smallest package they had instead.
I still have enough to get me through June. Hopefully by then the grocery stores will me back to normal. If not, at least the trees will be leafed out by then.
