I think it's up to the health care quality and how people take it serious or not.

They've been having an hard time trying to keep people from coming outside.

It is a cultural thing. People are VERY social in Spain/Italy. Meeting, kissing friends (on cheek), eating out every night....they are just much more social than Asians and even Americans. Not to mention the smoking % is quite high.

I guess if you have a culture where even the men kiss the men, it could be worse for spreading a virus.

Read a bit about the 1918 FLU which is said to be similar to this one. It lasted THREE Years! It supposedly infected 500 million people and killed 50 million.

West Kentucky Star - Health

We had the first positive I think last Wed but it was an hospital employee and at this point we do not know if it is related to the first case, from the 15th church exposure or from a new source but I am sure the health dept is working out its trail. When COVID-19 patients are near by it makes the news more real.

Plus China did extensive testing, traced contacts of infected cases, and enforced quarantine on contacts. Really enforced! One report said there were doors welded shut to keep people in. I don't know if that meant an infected person's apartment, or the gate into an apartment complex. That's impossible to consider here or in Europe.

Coronavirus test: UK to make 15-minute at-home kits available within days | The Independent

I am interested in this test. If you have the antibodies for COVID-19 that should lower your risks of getting it again hence more peace of mind. The cost may be over the top however.

Having a bunch of people who were immune to the virus who would volunteer to help support health care people would very useful.

I saw 18 college age guys playing basketball at a park yesterday afternoon. First thing I noticed was the full contact body foul, knocked down a guy, then the other guy offered his hand and picked him up. Then there were high 5's all around.

On the way home I noticed lots of people playing basketball at a few other parks and rec centers as well.

We're doomed!

I just read Starbucks has closed. I was always too cheap to buy coffee there, but there are a gazillion people who would be completely out of kilter if they
didn't get their mocha latte in the morning. Maybe a double whammy now, no job and no latte...

YES. Italians constantly hug and kiss each other. And the mayor of Florence started a "hug a Chinese" campaign to spite the US policy of shutting off travel from China. Lots and Lots of Chinese people live in Italy, and when they came back from China after Chinese new year celebrations they brought the virus with them. I don't know how many of them were hugged but apparently enough to get things started.

re hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin:

Often you hear that hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin work together well but the study that claim comes from had only 26 people in it, just six of whom took the azithromycin. Out of the original 26, some had no symptoms to begin with, three dropped out of the study when they went to intensive care, one dropped out due to nausea, and one died.

Anybody know more about this study?

I have seen several anecdotal testimonials of lives saved by the therapy.. Still to soon to know if it really works or not, or maybe works for some and not others.. I see India is hoarding its supplies and will no longer ship the drugs overseas. Apparently they believe. But who knows. And we are not going to know for sure until blind tests are completed, and all of that takes time. And time is not something we have a lot of.

Latest number for Toronto Canada...picked Toronto as I was raised there (both my parents Italian) and it has a large Chinese and Italian poplution.

An awful lot of people weren't aware of how the virus became so quickly entrenched in Italy. (folks returning from holiday) Many also aren't mindful that the US has States and populations/densities in them similar to a great many other countries. That makes raw case numbers seem less relevant to guessing* what will happen in a fruit bowl the size of a #7 wash tub. * (still all we can do)
