All those foreign countries which have a hole in the floor for a toilet are actually doing it the right way. Humans are physiologically built to squat when pooping, which coincidentally (sorry in advance for the mental picture) puckers out your rear exit so that there's less mess to clean up when you're done. The toilet is actually making us do it all wrong. Google squatty potty, that thing is catching on.

My High School job was at the ice skating rink at the local mall. Part of that job was cleaning the bathrooms. Mens bathroom was mostly picking up paper from the floor and sweeping. Women's bathroom was a hazmat nightmare. In every stall, there was poop all over the toilet seat. They would stand or squat on the toilet seat and land where it landed. This was every day, in just about every stall.

I was once in a large busy bathroom (maybe at an airport?) using a stall. Many of the stalls were occupied. Just about when I'm done a dollop of poo lands on the floor right under the divider from the next stall to my left. I don't know if that guy was having a bad day or weirdo...I quickly left.

For any of you that live in SW Florida, I delivered 1440 CASES (26 pallets floor to roof) of toilet tissue to Publix warehouse last night, so that ought to last you a couple of hours once it hits the system!
Ga-Pacific is running about 2.5 times the normal, shipping it out as fast as they can make it! Slowest part of the process is the truck drivers, with all the regulations and speed controls we have to put up with!

Georgia Pacific is NOT running 2.5 times the normal. They can't. They already run 24/7 and don't have spare toilet paper making lines just sitting around. Every article I've read this week with interviews of Georgia Pacific officials, say their orders are up by 2x, but they cannot increase production.

However, what they are seeing is that when the personal home use demand increases the demand at hotels, conference centers, and businesses drops. It's still the same amount of TP. Georgia Pacific says they have enough TP in their warehouses and produce enough at their factories to cover any needs.

As is Sam's. We started to place our usual paper goods restocking order yesterday. Shocked that there has been a run (pun intended) on TP.

No strain here though; we have a good stock of Bounty and napkins.

Sam's Club opens early if you have the right membership, but this morning, they didn't open at all until 9 a.m. and I'd guess there were at least 150 people or more in line when it opened. And by the time I got in, I'd never seen so many carts full of toilet paper and a long line of women waiting to get into that section of the store. And the meats and canned vegetables that I wanted . . . all gone, bare shelves.

Yep, when I was a youngster, I thought the women would keep things cleaner than the men. But my Dad bought a service station when I was 16 and I soon learned the same thing you said.

I'd never seen so many carts full of toilet paper and a long line of women waiting to get into that section of the store. And the meats and canned vegetables that I wanted . . . all gone, bare shelves.

I was at our locally owned grocery store this morning, and it wasn't too bad. Meat case didn't have any hamburger or much chicken, but they seemed to have 'most everything else. Lots of corned beef...all the "holes" in the meat case were filled with it. Odd considering it's St. Patrick's day. All out of TP.

My experience as well when I had a p/t janitorial gig about 30 years ago when I was "between jobs". Kind of surprised me especially considering the ladies' rooms were much "nicer" than the men's room...better lighting, brighter colors, etc. But much messier.

At my business they'd stuff rolls of TP into the bowl in order to cause flooding.
Got so I had to limit the TP to 1/2 rolls.

Same (never found out who) would also remove all light bulbs and a daily basis.

Having worked in the tissue segment of the paper industry, I’d guess supply is not the problem. All tissue converting facilities have hundreds of thousands of cases of tp. It’s the logistics part of getting the materials out to the stores that would be the challenge.

And please be cognizant of the fact that with all of the materials being stockpiled in peoples houses, the tissue manufacturers will see decreases sales over the next few months following this shortage. They are in a tough spot.

Costco, Winco, BiMart, and other retailers have posted on facebook that they will not issue returns or refunds for overbuying, so when this is all over it may be an opportunity to pick up a supply at distress sale prices.
The time to have prepared was well before this, when it goes on sale just buy an extra package, even if you don't need it at the time and closet it. Pretty soon you'll have a 17 year supply without hoarding or depriving anyone during high demand times.

I wonder how many people that hoarded TP also own cats ?...Ever seen the number a long clawed cat can do to a package of TP?

I worked for my father during HS in his service stations. Of course, one of my jobs was the bathroom cleanups. Yes, the women's was always the worst in both Oklahoma and California.
