Can you imagine how much a person who is 25# overweight, smokes, drinks & bets on the ponies would have to pay for an airplane ticket.

Example - Arnold Swartzenegger - for his height he is overweight, he smokes cigars, he has an occasional beer, ponies-?? - - - thank God he has his own jet.

He has already had far more serious health issues from steroid abuse

Learning from past mistakes.... high-value (well-corrected Moss ).

Some of what has been put in-place in Canada was learned during the SARS outbreaks here. As the article I just posted (and others) details in #'s, -19 has notable differences from SARS.

Few medical systems will be able to handle this crisis easily, given the potential for high case loads. Ventilators are one significant gating factor.

Rgds, D.

I have some old Anesthesia Machines that was told to scrap... not doing it for now as they are in fact a ventilator.

These are old German made machines but now the bulk all comes from China...

Im not a smoker/vaper, but I am a gun owner and a voter.
Although what you say is true from a political standpoint, from a societal standpoint, smoking has really been put under a lot of pressure. Theres fewer and fewer places for smokers and its no longer a cool or acceptable habit in most cases. I remember being younger and subjected to a lot of second hand smoke. Also remember walking on cigarette butts discarded all over sidewalks and floors in stadiums and train stations. That is rarely the case now as the dangers of the habit and few effective treatments for the suffering caused by it are helping the number to shrink. IOW, more people are slowly pulling their heads out of their arses.
I think I read that smoking is down from about 35% in the 60's to about 17% now????
A big improvement, but still a long way to go. And now vaping is on the rise.....

Yep. I agree with all you said. I started smoking at 17, quit at 27. Very bad habit that costs society a lot of money.

We just need to carefully think about banning any habit or legislating additional costs on individuals because of their habits. That's a complex path that would probably wind up swamped.

I just love the way this discussion has gone

All this talk of banning things and penalizing people for a behavior that "someone" doesn't like or agree with.
The danged holy then thou mentality, the it won't effect me so I don't care.

I've got mine so screw everyone else.

You all have a nice day

If there is even that many test kits in NC they sure aren't here in Eastern NC. Not a one as of yesterday.
Was told we would be told to quarantine at home and call the Health Dept. Who has very few staff.
Being an immune suppressed senior already fighting what I think is an undiagnosed tick borne illness, one of the others
besides Lymes, the very last thing I need is some cystic lung infection. They have a test already after you get swabbed for regular flu, don't they have that out
by now for this virus? Glad I live on a farm far away from folks. With a big pantry kept full for just this kind of thing.

These viruses remind me of hurricanes. They come every year, and it's only a question of how bad they are.
Not only does Covid seem highly infectious but it's a little bit more deadly than usual. But the way it's affected our world economy has been
a real eye opener. This is a national health concern, the Feds so far have not impressed. Not when my local docs just shake their heads and
say sorry, we have no test kits. Instead of treating you we have to send you home.

Thankfully the current active cases are further West, in the research triangle, not over here closer to the coast.
I had to chuckle today foodshopping early this morning to beat the rush, and on a dark rainy Sunday morning there were few folks shopping.
Which for me was good, could stay far away from folks. Many items were out of course, but I did fine, bought their last gallon of milk though.
All they had was the most expensive organic brand by then, but it was there. But one aisle was noticeably empty, there was not one can of Spam
left in the entire place. The ultimate survival food I guess.

From another forum so I cannot substantiate it but I read that the Governor of the State of Ohio, Mike Dewine, ordered ALL resturants closed at 9PM tonight and not to reopen until further notice... Things are getting crazy.

If people just used a tiny bit of common sense and self restraint, half this crap would not be necessary... Probably too much to ask though...
