Greasing Front Axle Support

/ Greasing Front Axle Support #21
That makes two of us :-( I haven't seen anything in my WSM about one, nor could I find one yesterday when looking for it after reading about it on here. I'm generally **** about greasing; heck, I loose sleep at night wondering if I missed one or didn't get the right amount of grease in.

I had read in the manual about being sure to grease the TWO zerks on the hydro-pedal. Guess what? There are THREE zerks on mine. I just found a third one after 5 years. I'm hoping that someone can tell me exactly where the two on the front pivot point is located.

Well every tractor I have owned has had 2 zerks on the front axle. and I guarantee your L3400 has 2. One in the front and one in the back. Unless it has been broken off or something.

I'm agreeing fully with k0ua's several posts. Matches my experience.

Sorry to bump old thread...
Are you guys using the same HD EP Grease for the front axle support zerks as you are your implements, FEL, backhoe, etc??
Or changing it to something different?

Same grease ..:)

What about a 2 WD ?? I have one and it has only a plug in the rear part of the pivot support. Nary a word in the manual about what to do. Anyone know about these ?
Thanks much.

Yes - my M6040 has two grease zerks. Front & back. I couldn't figure out why - " remove the axel breather plug". Then I carefully read James ( K0UA ) previous post. The grease from supports goes inside the front axel. It makes sense to remove the breather plug.

When I grease my M6040 front axle - all the grease remains outside. And how.......

Most of them I have seen just have one zerk, Put a couple of pumps into it.

YEP, and on my CUT I used some 1/8" tube to bring the zerk to a more accessible location so that I don't need to crawl under.
Greasing is messy enough without crawling in the dirt.
All the other zerks are readily accessible from the vertical.

On the L2501 the 2 wd front end pivot has no zerks. Just a plug in the rear of the pivot. No way to grease that I see. Nobody here has one of these tractors ? What do you do about it if anything ??? Thanks, Pete

I have never seen a 2wd drive tractor front axle pivot without a zerk

Page 55 of the operators manual doesn't show greasing a 2 wheel drive. It shows greasing the 4 wheel drive though

So is it like a sealed bearing?

Must be. But why the plug on the backside of the pivot?

I am going to do just thas. I have some grease fittings coming...BPST and Metric. One will fit cuz it ain't SAE. I also have a grease needle coming so I can try to get grease into there with it....as I am sure I will blow out a seal if I put too much pressure on it.j
I Will check it out more later...….but it sure does not have a grease fitting and the book does not address this or say why. This thing has got to have grease as it moves a lot.
