Does anyone know of a pin-style replacement stabilizer for the Yanmar SA 424's 3-point hitch lift arms? I've heard that the pin-style stabilizers are better, more robust, for pushing a box blade backwards.

You might try visiting "real" agri supply stores who sell supplies for various implements. At same time if you can find a design you like you may yourself be able to make or have local shop make to fit your tractor.

I believe the three point is intended more for pulling than for pushing. That said, I believe the name of the part you seek is a telescoping stabilizer. Do a bit of surfing to find a set for your tractor. Some companies make them specifically to fit popular tractor models.

Agree with this totally.

Well, unless Yanmar is making them better than the crappy ones that came on my 410 (and maybe they quit), you're better off with the turnbuckle version if that is what you have.

I had the pin type on my previous tractor (New Hollard 1925) for 13 years and NEVER had one bend using the tractor the exact same way I used my new Yanmar......which includes using a blade in reverse, backing up a bush hog, that kind of thing....stuff you OUGHT to be able to do with a tractor and stuff not bend.

The pin links would bend at a 30-45 degree angle under much pressure at all. I think they either made them out of cheap, soft metal, OR they drilled the holes for the pin too large not leaving enough metal on the outside of the hole, or a combination of the two. As I said, 13 years with a NH and never happened. Few months with Yanmar and it happened several times. Dealer replaced them under warranty, but I could see it was going to be MY problem eventually, so I started in on them, and the factory rep, and some Japanese engineers they sent out to my place, saying "SURELY you guys can do better than this" I was starting to think I've have to buy a set of New Holland links and use them !

They finally sent me a set of turnbuckle ones. and for 8 years now, they have worked just fine. I wonder if they just finally threw in the towel on the pin type.

New turn buckle type on the left, original pin type on the right, with one of the bent ones.

I was not looking for this in careful detail yesterday but was back on yanmar lot looking at the YT359 again and also look at the stabilizers on smaller yanmars. I did not like the design on the smaller tractors. The YT359 uses telescoping stabilizers but they are designed to only be pulled and not pushed. Other words they work like chain stabilizer will. The linkage on think the tractor end has two pieces that work about like a chain does if pushed or pulled to prevent bending I would assume. The YT359 had large rough cut mower on it and I tried moving it when lifted and it held very well.

I just want to say a couple things.

1. If the telescoping links are bent then it is 100% a user setup error.
2. The telescoping links require that the links are set up to the correct lengths so that they cannot be in compression and only in tension. This is not trivial and is easy to mess up. It might even require moving the implement back and forth to make sure that the links are set up correctly.
3. The turnbuckle links are near impossible to put in to compression and cause an issue.
4. I like the turnbuckle links. They are easy and not really any slower to setup because of the above issues.

Pardon my skepticism on your opinion, BUT it's AMAZING how I had this same type of link on my previous tractor for 13 YEARS and never managed a "user setup" error, using the exact same implements as my current Yanmar, and yet somehow it happens 2-3 times on the Yanmar in a year or two until I got them to send me the turnbuckle style.

I don`t know what your previous tractor was because you did not say and I cannot comment on its setup. The one that you show has zero compliance, so I can see how it can be easily set up wrong. There is no margin for error.

The bottom line is that they ar never designed to be put in compression and will be bend when subjected to that abuse.

My previous tractor was a 1998 Model 1925 New Holland (not seeing what that has to do with it) As I stated, it used the exact same system, and never bent. My feeling is the Yanmar used holes too large, leaving too little metal to withstand any compression, and/or the metal is crappy.

What exactly do you mean by "zero compliance" ? Do you mean the link must be tight and allow zero sway ? How is that possible with a hole in a link with some distance (whatever it is) from hole to hole ??? With a turnbuckle, one can tighten them to zero sway.....not possible with the pin hole type.

What I meant by zero compliance is there is nowhere for the link to compress or move if the link is put in compression. Turnbuckles can go in any direction if put in compresion.

The turn buckle style is what came on my EX450 .
