Drinking second cup of coffee. 25ー with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 44ー with snow/rain in am. Sun in afternoon. Looked out the window yesterday thinking I was going to get net off garden pond. Nope when I went out there was still 2 areas where ice was where sun did not shine. Going to put this project off until Sunday when temperature will be close to 60ー
Sassy's training went very well. Spent about 1/2 hour with actual commands. She responded very well and was doing sit, come and heel. Me, not so well. But I will learn. Sassy needed a nap after trainer left. Will only be doing 15 minute sessions with her in the future.

Prayers for those that were affected by tornadoes in the south.

Eric, when you compare the size of UK to many of USA states in size. You are on the high side of the tornado list. Michigan, where I live is very close to the UK in size. Only has an average of 14.7 tornadoes each year. We are protected by the Greats Lakes that surround us.

Looking, you may not have many tornadoes and hurricanes. But you have files and mosquitos that can carry you to one of them high tornado areas.

Drew, good to hear you are feeling better. I have all my bill on auto pay. Except credit cards. Thinking about the future I may set them up on auto pay also.

Don, MI did not participate in Super Tuesday. Next Tuesday is our voting. I do it with absentee ballot. Already in the box. You must select a party to get a ballot for primary. Otherwise all you get is a ballot with a place to vote on any other item on the ballot.

Good Morning All.

40° and sunshine
Had another severe storm roll by at 11pm, very high winds. I was looking for a tornado.
Accidents on the route to work, so relaxing at home a bit.

I still want a drone, but don’t want to get the license. I hate money grabbing taxes called licenses.

45ーF and cloudy this morning, going up to 53ー today. Should be sunny and around 60ー for most of the week here.

Well, the work trip to northern Illinois was a complete bust. Got about 500 feet from my exit off the interstate when my car suddenly lost power and started to shudder. I pulled off onto the side of the exit ramp, where I remained for most of the day. I was pretty much 20 miles from anywhere. I called the Kia Roadside Assistance number and they arranged a tow for me to the Kia dealer in Rockford IL. Called the customer and explained my situation, and they guy was quite understanding. I also called the Kia dealer to let them know I was coming in. After a few hours of waiting, I called the tow company (out of Chicago, of all places), and was told it would be about another half hour. An hour later, I tried to call again several times, but they weren't answering the phone anymore apparently. Called Kia back, and got stuck in the computer void a couple of times, so I called them back again and canceled the service. A Google search found the best rated tow service in Rockford. They had a flatbed truck there in 20 minutes. Four-and-a-half hours later, I was on my way to the dealer. Unfortunately, by the time I got there, they did not have enough time to look at my car, as they were two techs short that day. They wouldn't get to it until Monday. Options were to get a hotel room and hang out in Rockford all weekend, or rent a car and drive home. Enterprise was right across the street, so that became the best option. They were able to get me into a brand new Dodge Grand Caravan right away, so I took it. Finally got back home around 10pm.

Just got the call from the dealer a few minutes ago ... the engine is toast. Two of the four pistons have blown rings. $5K-ish for a rebuilt used engine, or $7100-ish for a new Kia engine. Neither of those options sound attractive for a 5-year-old car with 175K miles. Looks like I'm car shopping today.

Oh my PJ. I am sorry to read about this. The only thing I could offer is, since they won't offer you diddly for your Soul, maybe you could trailer it back, and as a background project, you could maybe know someone who could rebuild the engine with an aftermarket kit. Possibly could be a backup car, to use as your equipment gig car. Then you could buy almost any sedan as your primary car. Without looking, I would guess you could find an engine overhaul kit for about $500. Have the block bored out to see what diameter oversize you would need first.

A quick internet search turns up this:

2012-2016 Kia Soul: Recall Alert. The Problem: High exhaust gas temperatures may damage the catalytic converter, possibly resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to one or more of the engine's pistons as well as possible piston connecting rod failure.Feb 28, 2019

I have had both Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. If every joint in your body hurts and aches, mostly in the larger joints first, it is Lyme disease. If you think your head is going to explode, it is Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Wow, sorry for ailments. Does the lyme cause much re-occurring problems?

RNG .. I've been using this stuff since I was in grade school. It was a staple in corn country.

Corn Huskers Oil-Free Hand Lotion - 7 fl oz Amazon.com : Corn Huskers Oil-Free Hand Lotion - 7 fl oz : Body Lotions : Beauty

I use corn huskers for my cold weather itch, and have the O'keefes for really dry skin cracking problems.

The tornado damage in Nashville and subsequent loss of life is terrible addition for those lost and those suffering

Prayers for all, especially those in the aftermath of yesterday's tornado.

RNG, I'll bet your back IS sore. Glad you have so much stamina.

Sodamo, nice pics. "Ski Hawaii" :)

Eric, I hope new lamb season is fun for you. Hope your windiness dies down.

Drew, prayers for your situation.

Don, are you sure you've not had any aphids in your diet? :)

Ron, glad you got to spend time with your family. Hope it occurs often.

I got mine off EBAY. You may get more choices if you know blade dimensions. Having a JD gives me many more choices. I have 3 spare sets of blades for my 72" Kubota MM mower. Those things are tough. May never wear out the originals. Unless my JD dies.

I did some more searching and found some Oregon Gators that fit, for less than I paid for OEM. Next set I'll give them a try.

G5 or G6 blades are very good. I got G6 first set. My backup set is G5. They seem to be more aggressive for lift than G6. Price was $49 with free shipping. 3 blades 60” mower.

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 5:15AM. Sunny. High 77F. Winds light and variable.
Made it all the way up to 79F yesterday afternoon. Very warm for this early in March here.

Thanks for all the drone feedback, guys! The more I read about the JDI Mavic Mini, the more I like it. It would be very useful to get an aerial shot of the open trenches to document what wire and pipe went where, so I may pull the trigger on one today.

A box showed up yesterday morning with a pair of HomeKit compatible video cameras, and they're working very well. The images are available in Apple's Home app, right along with the light switches, thermostat, and other sensors, and are available to see when I'm traveling. And all protected by the security and encryption built into HomeKit. I had a couple of questions during the installation, which were quickly answered by native English speaking tech support staff, something I didn't expect for what seems to be a Chinese product. Seems like I had to call because I couldn't find any user manual, other than a very brief Quick Start pamphlet that came in the box. So that's on today's agenda, even if it means calling their tech support again.

The visit by the building inspector went very well. He commented about the shallow trench up near the house, but was OK with it with the metal conduit. He checked my pressure gauge on the gas pipe, asked me how long it had been on there (5-6 days) and let a few PSI out to make sure the gauge was working, and that was it. We spent the rest of the time talking about the Camp Fire (his house was badly damaged), the homeless shenanigans going on in Chico, and even the weather. Really nice guy, and not the same one as last time. Only one final inspection to go when it's all done.

Cleaned up the trench for the shipping container one last time and got the plastic drain pipe installed using both the new and some left over pieces. Also used some of the heavy left over plastic tape left over from wrapping the propane line fittings to fasten grates and secure the joints between pieces. It'll be interesting to see how that tape holds up.

Got to thinking how I'm going to compact the dirt going back into the trenches, and I think I'm going to get some 4x6 lumber and chunk it up into 4' lengths, stack it up in the trench, then run over it with the tractor. If I fill the trench in 6" lifts, that's four rounds of compaction, and 5 boards to reach the bottom of the trench. It'll take a while, but I really don't want the same kind of subsidence I got over the trench I had last year in front of the house for the sprinkler system, especially in the two trenches that run under the generator pad.

The electrical contractor is supposed to drop off the solar panels this morning, and I've got a bone density scan to go to this afternoon. I'm told to wear pants with no metal in them, so it looks like sweat pants will be the order of the day.:confused3:

Happy Hump Day folks!

52 degrees this morning, going for a high of 55; won't hardly be able to feel any change. It's been raining, very lightly, since about 2 a.m. and my gauge is now up to the half inch mark. Looks like a good day to just stay indoors.
