I enjoyed the video as well. I toured the Horicon Works (Wisconsin) plant in the mid 1980s and was quite impressed. I have toured the tractor assembly plant in Waterloo Iowa a couple of different times and was amazed at how clean and quiet the plant was. I would enjoy working at either.

I hope Tim's video puts to rest the claim that all of Deere's compact and sub-compact tractors are manufactured overseas and that Deere just puts the wheels and tires on in Augusta. Sure, the engines are Yanmar built in Japan and I am sure there are sub components that are too imported but it is comforting to see that a substantial portion of the tractor is assembled with parts and assemblies made in our country. Some "experts" have claimed that the Deere compacts and sub-compact are merely re-badged Yanmar tractors fully assembled overseas.

So thanks again Tim for the video.

and some were.. don't think (??) any are now, but deals are made all the time between other countries where Deere wants (and has) a presence due to foreign markets and trade deals. Some of those deals include buying their products.

Was invited to the Augusta plant a couple times to meet with engineers through a dealer invitation to discuss new changes and customer input, included driving the new products and competition products at their experimental site. Was treated very well, I might say.

Also a trip through the Horicon plant on the same kind of deal.. That was during the time they were making a trade-off deal with Canadian firm Bombardier, but didn't last long as Bombardier was bought by another company and ended the deal with Deere.

Deals happen fast and it is hard to say 'who is on first" for any length of time. :)

Thanks for the kind words guys. I shoulda posted this here myself.

Deere tractors used to be made by Yanmar. Deere started phasing this out in 2001 (when they opened this plant).

The last fully Yanmar tractor was the Gen1 2025r and 2032r. These were replaced in 2017 with the new 2032r/2038r.

That is true. But my point is that are some experts that claim the 1-4 series tractors are really just green painted Yanmars.

The 55 series compact tractors (655,755, 855 and later 955) were initially made in Horicon Wisconsin beginning in 1986. I believe production was transferred to Augusta during their later production run. I have run into some folks who claim they were imported Yanmars.

My JD 850 was.

The John Deere models 2100, 2300, 2400, 2800 and 2900 ( the 2000 series ) were ZETOR tractors made in the ZETOR factory. The only difference is the color.

Up until the latest models all of the 2-series were Yanmar units wearing JD skins. This includes the 2520, 2720 and Gen-1 2032R. Cub Cadet also used to sell the rebadged Yanmars and even Yanmar themselves sold a few models. A lot of the parts in the Cub Cadet version are the same. Odd thing is the Cub parts are a lot less expensive than the parts from JD. I recall someone looking for an instrument cluster for a 2520 and JD wanted around $800. The same instrument cluster from Cub was only $400.

You could always tell the Yanmars, the S/N tag on the frame clearly shows Yanmar Co. LTD, Osaka, Japan. My 2012 2720 has a Yanmar serial tag. Tractors made in Augusta are listed as such on the serial tag.

It was only certain CUT models. The 4300 was a larger tractor. It had a Yanmar engine but was not made in Japan. The website Tractordata.com has pretty good info on where the various Deere models were made. They show the 4300 as being made in Augusta but the previous model (850) was made by Yanmar in Japan.

You are correct. TractorData shows the 55 models were Wisconsin and then Augusta (although they don't show the 655 ever transferring to Augusta). The 650, 750, 850 and 950 were made by Yanmar in Osaka, Japan.
