Should I worry?

A person I know attended a reception last week that was attended by a roomful of Chinese investors.
I was in his presence for 2 hours on Friday.

Yesterday he was down with a very bad 'flue like cold', so I was told.

I would certainly be concerned. Take plenty of Vitamin C. Keep a distance from others if you can until you see if his develops.

I hate following stuff like this. Can I set my phone to get an alert when the toll hits 90 million or something? Then, I will start worrying. Any need to worry about all those little E-Packets I get from China on a weekly basis?

IT. I too am concerned. My wife ordered a blouse back in December. If it arrives we will not be touching it. Probably just burn the package. Over-reaction? Not for my wife who suffers from OCD. She would never be able to wear it now if it arrives. I also ordered some special crystal lens glasses that are due in the next couple of days. I need them badly. I will spray them with coloidal silver and put them in the sun for a few hours.

Just wondering...It probably would only take a story (true or false) to get out that someone here in the US caught the virus from contaminated merchandise (say from like Wal-Mart or Home Depot etc.)...to set off a massive boycott and complete rejection of all goods from China...

Good God no!. who in their right mind would ever go to china, past or present??

^^ That's what I keep wondering. I can't think of a single reason why I ever would have wanted to go there.

Ordered some electronic components just a week or so back from china.

Just got notification that my account had been credited back.

Not sure if that means the people are sick that sell the parts or that shipping has been halted for air mail stuff or other reason.

Was thinking that I would not handle the parts without spraying them down with some kind of disinfectant. No need now since they are not being shipped.

I had an order that got stuck three months ago!.. I just gave up!..

Last year think I got something in November that had been shipped in February. But Canada Post was playing games. They are annoyed that they have to honour cheap and free Chinese shipping.

I just tried on a pair of pants that I got in the mail. Maybe I should check the tag and see where they were made.

When the toll hits 90 million, you'll probably see buzzards circling.

China is a very interesting place to work/visit. I've been going for many years. My wife has traveled with me 4-5 times. The people are very friendly and many nice geological sites. There are parts of the culture that take getting used to too, like waiting in lines. What line?, it's a made rush to the metro door, airplane door.

Went there 4 times. Very interesting. A bit of a culture shock to this rural Yankee. In a city of 10 million that no one has ever heard of. China has dozens and dozen of them bigger than NYC, L.A. or Chicago. Extremely advanced and modern, way beyond USA and Europe, not even close, and then extremely primitive a few blocks away.
Lots of contradictions.
There I felt more free, with way, way, less restrictions.
If you want to drive an overloaded truck, no muffler, bald tires, no turn signals etc.. (and you wouldn't believe what you see on the road) the wrong way down a 4 lane highway at rush hour, past a cop: No problem!
The traffic will just part and go around you. If that truck breaks down and you need to pull the motor out of it right there on the highway. No problem, there's a guy who does that.
I once "shared" a bicycle lane (as in tucked in my elbows and passed each other) with a scooter and a cement truck (on the bicycle lane) going the wrong direction. Yep, we somehow fit.
I watched them build a highway overpass, swinging beams and cement over the top of live traffic passing underneath it for days. There's no OSHA. Its the kind of unrestricted, non-regulations that a lot of people in this country dream about and want to get back to.
...but don't write a nasty letter to the editor.
Yes, I can come here and complain about my government, but so what?
Not like I have a billion dollars to launch a campaign or be heard.
In day to day REAL life, the average Chinese person I saw was way more free (unregulated).

the virus wont survive being in the mail for a week. lots of temperature/pressure/humidity changes. it might survive on a next day air package, but it would have to be the perfect conditions. still so unlikely i would not worry about it. we are likly to see shortages of products made in china because of the extended holiday/shutdowns and travel restrictions in the country.

FYI, common Rhinovirus cells can live up to seven days outside of a life form...viruses can also constantly mutate and develop strains that are resistant to typical elements that would normally kill them more quickly...

I still want to see the Great Wall, but it won't happen any time soon.

The Dean at the University where my wife works is Chinese. He goes there about every other month. The University is working on expanding their online Nursing BSN degree's with 10,000 Chinese students per year. Huge income source with minimal output.

Last month my wife and I had lunch with him, and he had just returned from China a few days before, and was still dealing with jet lag. Two days ago my wife caught a cold, or something. Fortunately, he hasn't come down with anything, so we're not too worried, but it does make you wonder and realize how easy this can spread.
