My philosophical moment of the day.

Mother Earth is a tough place to live. There are a gazillion different life forms wanting to be in control. Man thinks he's on top. Not even close. Gotta get in the top ten first.

So, our road to success is defensive. Vaccines, masks, no contact, wash your hands, etc., etc.

Defensive never wins a War. Never.

Our flu virus almost always comes from China. Why is that?

Maybe because the concentration of human population makes it the ideal target for any life form trying to climb to the top?

I have a much simpler philosophy. The planet is capable of supporting a finite amount of life; sickness, disease, starvation and natural disasters are all ways which it limits how much it has to support. Everytime that we solve a problem or cure a disease, another pops up to accomplish the same thing. This planet will be around long after we're dead and gone.

We have stopped people coming in from China, they are being taken to Christmas Island for two weeks of quarantine before being allowed in, I have heard that surgical masks do nothing to stop the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus has killed zero in U.S.
Flu on the other hand:

I sincerely believe that my yearly Flu shot vaccine works and if or when a vaccine is developed for the Corona virus, I will be in line to get one. No flu or even a cold since I've been getting these vaccines. Next thing on my preventative disease list is my Pneumococcal booster shot.

I agree with others, the worrisome part for me is that people that have the virus can be contagious to others for days before they actually start feeling ill. 3 weeks (or so) ago, the infected count was around 50 in China, now it's over 20,000 I believe. Makes you wonder what the number will be 3 weeks from now. The 14 day quarantine on people coming into the U.S. from that region is worth a shot for sure, but it also only takes one slipping through the cracks with an infectious disease to cause a big problem for any country. I read an article last week where one of the quarantined people at a California air base had attempted to leave the base without permission, after only being there a few days. Guess he thought he didn't have time or was too important for a medical quarantine that could infect/kill many other people. Luckily, he was stopped before getting off base and returned to quarantine. Several countries are just checking for fever in people arriving into their country from abroad, but as they have now proven that infected people are contagious before they develop any symptoms, I question whether this exercise is more for their public's peace of mind; than actually preventing the spread of a disease. Just this simple man's opinion, I'm sure they are many people out there that have a better understanding of it than I do.

Should I worry?

A person I know attended a reception last week that was attended by a roomful of Chinese investors.
I was in his presence for 2 hours on Friday.

Yesterday he was down with a very bad 'flue like cold', so I was told.

I hate following stuff like this. Can I set my phone to get an alert when the toll hits 90 million or something? Then, I will start worrying. Any need to worry about all those little E-Packets I get from China on a weekly basis?
