Everyone can't be perfect and never make a mistake like you. But I guess that weeds out the dumb ones so there's more room for you.
I lost a Son in an auto accident 25 years ago. He was 19. I've visited with the first man on the scene on two different occasions. Both times he handled it well and truthfully answered every question that I had.
If you are asked about this be reserved and honest. If they ask detail questions give honest detail answers. I wanted to know every detail of my Son's last moments. They weren't pleasant details. But I had to know.
Thanks for your efforts in a very difficult situation.
Same deal in NY. Enforcement seems pretty low, and apparently doesn't apply to police. You'd think being in charge of over a ton of metal would make you not want to multi-task.Illinois has hands free law. You can use the phone, just can't be holding it. They also don't allow the phone to be used at all in school zones. Enforcement seems pretty weak. I often see people on speaker phone just holding it up near their face, like that's somehow hands free.
Is it legal to eat a hog dog and drive?
I love this quote - "The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that when taking your eyes off the road for just five seconds at 55 mph, you will travel the length of a football field. Think about that as you reach over to dip your French fry in some ketchup while driving". My key question is who takes their eyes off the road for 5 FULL seconds?
Smoking and chewing illegal in the car as well?
Don't get me wrong, it's common sense you shouldn't text and drive, but the reality is people have been idiots behind wheels since the car was invented.
please explain what the NO distracted law is?Just curious??
Yep. I miss him. I never wish him back to this place.
Every state has had such laws since long before cell phones. The driver is expected to be alert, pay attention to traffic and maintain control of their vehicle at all times. Distractions can be eating, sipping coffee, women applying makeup, parent yelling at the kids, pet jumping in your lap and so on. I was opposed to specific cell phone laws simply because driver inattention was already covered.
Years ago I used to time my travels for work to coincide with teleconferences so I could at least get one thing done.

According to newspaper the driver was 36 year old Alfonso Rosas. No next of kin or hometown or anything else mentioned. This small town and this farm road seems an odd place for someone to be if not from around here.

What I'm curious is what kind of "rural road" has a 75MPH speed limit? Didn't read through all the posts per this thread, but I've driven a lot of miles for work, and when by myself, I've driven extremely fast (when no one was around me) and the only way I'd go over 100MPH is on a long strecth of interstate highway (at least as far as the eye could see to the horizon) 4 lanes, 2 lanes going each way, separated.
I can only figure health issue with the drive as a child was in the car as well. From the pics, it looks more like a "route" road than an interstate. That alone would tell you no way should you be traveling more than 60MPH IMO.
There is a curve about 300 yards from my house by my neighbors that get's a car to flip over around the corner at least every couple of years due to speed, but there is NO WAY you could even approach 70MPH on that stretch let alone 100MPH. That said, I know per this story it's Texas and it can be flat for a good ways in that area.
Just did another look...

Sorry, no way this road should be 70MPH speed limit (FM 1428 road per the news story). The safe assumption is people will tend to always drive at least 10MPH over the speed limit.
The article said 70mph speed limit, not 75.
