It must be nice to be able to afford the perfect equipment for EVERY possible situation.

Sometimes you have to forego doing something if you aren't prepared to do it safely. Doesn't mean you need perfect equipment, just adequate.

And how many of these catastrophes you predict actually happened?

How many people died as a result of these 1100+ pages of people doing it wrong?

It only takes one mishap.
Have you ever seen someone impaled with a pipe that was improperly secured on the vehicle in front after passing through a windshield I have and it wasn't very pleasant sight. Or that unsecure matress on the top of a car that blew off and caused a accident as it fell on the hood of the car behind.
Unfortunately they are preventable mishaps but as the saying goes You Can't Fix Stupid

If you're talking to me, I'm not predicting a catastrophe... Just telling them they are stupid.

Maybe Ignorant would be kinder and more accurate.

Many... Google is your friend. :}

Actually a search asking that very question produces pages and pages of ambulance chasing lawyers, but apparently about 500 fatalities in the last several years from things falling off non commercial vehicles.

Oh, I'm sure. But I've had enough of coddling people. My 2020 resolution is to call things like I see them and push the snowflakes over the edge.

Thereç—´ a big difference in making do with what you have and being stupid and careless .

Right on Right on Right on. Momma always said Stupid is as stupid does. Every one who has ever had a CDL sees stupid crap on the hiway every day and wonders why the jerks don't get pulled over and cited.

It not only goes for securing loads properly with the RIGHT STUFF, but also covering and lashing down their garbage loads so that papers and plastic and cans don't go out and litter the roads.

:laughing: This reminds me of posts I see on Next Door. One person complains about neighbors' dogs crapping on their lawn and some other genius attacks them for just being too sensitive. Of course, I guess stepping in dog doo is better than a 4x4 though the windshield.

I've avoided next Door. Every quote from it I hear here, starts with the equivalent of Be Very Afraid.

I don't see anything out there to be afraid of.

Maybe someone that can afford it has a closet of every conceivable strap on for every possible situation. I hate people like that. Makes me afraid.

Yea, it attracts the paranoids, but I've gotten good tips there on local businesses and contractors. Definitely too much petty bickering, though.

90% of these (for cars and light trucks) could be strapped down with a 4 pack of good quality 1" ratchet straps (something like: https://www.amazon.com/Badass-Moto-Heavy-Ratchet-Straps/dp/B016QR3C8M or similar with at least a 1000# WLL ).
$40 isn't out of reach for most anyone who has a car.
We have a set similar to that in each of our vehicles just in case something needs to be strapped down.

You can buy 2” straps at most places for $10 each or less.

Yes you can (I have eight or ten of them), but most cars and light trucks don't have anchor points big enough (or heavy enough) to hook the ends of 2" straps and make any real difference over using a thousand pound rated 1in strap.
Also, most cars and light trucks (the group of vehicles I specifically referred to) do not have the payload capacity to carry more (weightwise) than what can be tied down with 4 1000# WLL straps.

I wish they would make straps with a hole you can stick a 3/8" ratchet in to undo them. Or at least a BIG screwdriver. I spray them with lubricant, but it's not enough.
