Did you follow BCP's link? They have a video showing them moving a piece of equipment.

Why wouldn稚 they just drive it? With those big off road tires I wouldn稚 think the ground pressure would be that bad.

Until they get to the first overhead object. A signal light or overpass a sign and that would be as far as they would get.

They are going to find the same or more when hauling it on a trailer- er trailers. More likely it has to do with speed as well as wear and tear. Off road equipment generally doesn't like being on road.

So it’s shorter on the trailer with the tires still on?? I’m guessing those sticks on the side of the semi trucks are 13.6’ so it’s way more than that.

Would expect a maneuver like that to be staged.....carefully staged. But it doesn't appear to be fake.
They have a couple other similar pictures on their website, one of them shows a Caterpillar 793C (just the body, no dump box) on the dual trailer setup (which they claim to have invented).
Per the caterpillar spec sheet I found ( here: https://s7d2.scene7.com/is/content/Caterpillar/C198808 ), the 793C (without the box on it) weighs 266,800#

What year did that chase take place? I saw an orange van that looked similar to my 76 Ford van. Jon

From the same spec sheet, the truck is 18.5 feet tall (from the ground to the top of the cab).
If the intersection is a large intersection and they follow specs similar to Florida's, the top of the traffic signal could be up to 25 feet off the ground: FHWA - MUTCD - 2003 Edition Figure 4d-01 Long Description

So it is possible that they could squeak underneath a traffic signal depending on how it is set up.

That's why DOT issues oversized permits and dictates the route.

Funny, I never heard of that incident. Should have had Bruce Willis jump on and cover the air intake with a jacket.

Right, where was Bruce when they needed him?

You have to wonder though, WTF was he thinking? He wasn't trying to do any damage, he even had the flashers on. Maybe just wanted a nice warm jail cell for the winter, or ?

Some think, if you can't be famous, be infamous.

We caught this after Thanksgiving in Kansas City on 435 East. I made sure I passed with room to spare, it was sketch even in my book.

They probably are OK even with the top one leaning. The lateral strap (front to back) is cinched down into the bale, so it isn't going anywhere unless something breaks.

I would still put a second strap over the top and straight down to each side of the wheel well to pull the bale back up a little bit.

Look close in the second pic. He has a second strap. It is yellow and blends into the bale pretty good.

Yeah, but at least use a full 2” web strap (I know they look like they were but they were on the light side) It did have the side to side strap but again they were a bit on the small side. I’m sure they were within weight limits on the strap and trailer but it really leaned to the side on the interchanges in the triangle from I-49 to 435. At least they were decent bales net wrapped. But the loader did a poor job of placement.
