good morning all. 29 going up to a warm 60 this afternoon in clouds.

my reference to progressive had to do with my inability to get needed medicine in a state that is now making lots of money taxing hemp farmers for the same stuff
they make it difficult to get a prescription for. It simply makes no sense and that doesn't seem progressive to me.
I equate progressive with intelligence and open minds, not politics...
I will try that mailorder place, thank you, for topical oil.

Eric, hope the hearing aids work. Should help with listening to music too.
With 80 percent hearing loss in one ear, my sense of stereo is really messed up.
But none of the three ENT's I've been too have said hearing aids would help. I really wish they would.
I do wonder about noise cancelling ear buds though, either Sony or Bose.

My last ailing friend/Friend passed away this week. Am going to his memorial in Wilmington NC on Sunday afternoon.
That's three good friends in four months. Makes one feel mortal, very mortal.
Two of these guys are my age and we all volunteered on the same finance and other committees at church.
All from cancer and chemo didn't work at all. Just made them sick as could be.
I try to remember them with big smiles on their faces.

770 bucks to fix my truck. The week has had its lumps.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 36° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 40° with bigger chance of getting some sun. Got about 30 seconds of it yesterdays. Visit to Credit Union wife and I had a joint has turned into a night mare. Have to close the account because it was started by wife when she worked at GM. This is account where all income money is auto deposited and many bills are auto payed. Offered to open a new account. But no help transferring all the auto stuff. No thanks. Stared moving everything to other account I have at another Credit Union. Only have 6 more to get done. Not sure I will get anything else done today.

Looking, I traveled to Toronto a lot for work. I would start at close to speed limit (100 kph). Every time got passed I would hit the cruise control to another few clicks. By the time I reached west side of Toronto I would be very close to 162 kph. Still getting passed. In 30 years of doing that never got stopped. That was pure luck. Have not traveled the 401 in a few years. Not sure if you can still get away with it today.

Eric, I am putting off getting hearing aids. I can get my wife's set reprogrammed for my hearing. But have been putting it off. Mondays Dr visit should have proved to me that I need them.

Roy, glad you are home safe. Not sure you neighbor is happy about having to untangle an extension cord from his snowblower.

Hawkeye, prayers for your wife. Hope the person doing your review is not the one you are leaving.

Buckeye, good news on your continued recovery. Are you ready for Monday?

Mostly, got the replacement lock for barn yesterday. I will start by taping instructions above the lock today. Even though I think I know how to do it. :confused2:

PJ, Loosing the ability to drive when we age is a tough one. Hope it's something temporary with your FIL.

RNG, if you get to drive that Vette. Please invite me. I promise to wear my seat belt. I thought I could drive on a race track. Until the guys at GM proving grounds took me out for test rides on the big track. Took a few trips on it to get used to the G force on the end turns. We were doing a report on what different amounts of imbalance of tire and wheels assemblies did to a vehicle. It was a fun week there many years ago.

Drew, sorry about your friend passing. I lost 3 friends the same way in the last year. May they all RIP.

Prayers and best wishes to all.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning!!!! 55F @ 5:00AM. Cloudy skies with periods of rain this afternoon. High 64F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%.
Looks like it's gonna be a wet weekend, too, but then dry for the rest of the ten-day. I'm not complaining.

Seems to me that these days lots of words don't mean what they used to, "progressive" being just one of them.:muttering: "Snowflake" is another.

Phlebotomist yesterday was complaining her company was pressuring her to get bus driver training so she could split jobs during slow demand times for her primary skill. Seems to me like someone that studied to get that medical certification did so to avoid doing jobs like driving a bus, but what do I know?:confused2: I do know that traffic was a mess in town yesterday; people drive these days with no consideration for anyone else on the highway. Saw several near misses, fortunately none of which involved me.

Paid $3.36/gallon to get a bunch of 25 pound propane bottles filled, and counter man was crowing about how good his prices are. I told him the bulk supplier that fills the tank here quoted $2.50/gallon to me earlier this year, to which he complained that even with his markup, he's still losing money filling propane tanks. Some people are just never happy.

I feel a lot safer driving a 3/4 ton pickup truck with 300 HP than I ever did driving that Bimer. Lots more steel around me, and a lot less go under the go pedal.

Grass is just starting to sprout out in the meadow after the past week or so's rain. That three point buck was back chasing does last night, looking scrawnier than ever. Not much for 'em to eat anyway right now, but I don't think he's got eatin' on his mind anyway. But I should probably get another tank of pre-emergent sprayed out around the firewood piles today so I don't have grass growing up into the wood.

Couldn't find anyone selling the correct size battery for either the van or the Kubota side-by-side yesterday. But then I only went to three places, and then gave up. I'll do some calling around next week to maybe improve my chances. But I did come up with one more test on the van to see if it really is a battery problem, and that was to run some jumper cables between the truck and the van and see if that helped the keep the voltage level up while cranking. It didn't. Could be that the cables I have aren't the thickest in the world, but I never had any problems with them in the past. I did find a tutorial on using the diagnostic app, and was able to email myself a CSV file containing time vs. RPM and voltage, so I'll get that plotted up today to see if there's anything there to learn. And I'll do some digging to see if there's a way of watching for the injector pulses, in hopes of verifying that the low voltage during cranking really is causing a problem.

TGIF gang!:drink:

Good morning! 54˚F clear skies - perfect Fall weather. Going Christmas shopping at the new Duluth store with their 25% of coupon today!

Eric, your hearing loss "sounds" like my hearing loss. Hearing aids will help and you will find the meaning of "easy listening" as without hearing aids your brain is struggling to interpret the sounds. It's like the difference between taking a test you don't know the answers and eliminating the most unlikely wrong answer to recognizing the correct answer of the multiple choice immediately.

I have 4 channels on mine: 1. for in the vehicle, 2. in crowds, 3. in the woods, and 4. in a building that has the looped Telecoil system. Mine is 7 years old and newer ones are available. The new ons have rechargeable batteries otherwise you will have to replace the batteries about every 7 days. Even if you use your hearing aids a little in a week - when you are working and not around people much- the batteries might last 8 days.

Be able to adjust the volume and change channels easy. NOT a little button on the hearing aid if you have big clumsy fingers. I have a little necklace remote thats under my shirt, it's about 2"X1" and has a large button for channels and two for volume. They should all be bluetooth and connect to your phone. The necklace remote also acts like a receiver I answer the phone and talk into it with the phone in my pocket. I got the flexible buds for the ears, I tried the customaed "formed" buds but they were uncomfortable. I can only wear mine about 4 hours then my ears get itchy, they have an oil you can use but it's seldom I need to wear them longer.

Their are many accessories available the ones I don't use are the wife-mike, the bluetooth TV attachment. I have a remote speaker for the TV that I set near me that sounds better (also use CC) and I can also hear conversations not on TV. The TV bluetooth connection will not pick up voice in the room only on the TV.

Cost: I got mine at Costco for about $2K. other places were almost twice as much.
Mine had a 30 (or 60?) day return and free lifetime adjustments. I just had another hearing test and adjustment after having them for 7 years.

EDIT: This was my second pair of hearing aids the first ones I got from another place years before I had to return because the metal sounds were too amplified and I think I was irritated because of the cost vs. benefit received.

The kind I got was the behind the ear with a thin wire going into the ear bud. If it's windy outside and you are at an event the wind noise will drown out voice.

Just read Bird's hearing aid review, my hearing loss is not as severe. Without hearing aids I can hear my wife talk but find I ask her to repeat a lot. It also helps if I see her face when she talks. I can hear but without my aids I struggle to hear the RIGHT words.

The hearing aids are most helpful in the car where they filter out the road noise and conversations are easy to hear.

In the meantime if anyone would care to share their experience of what it's like to wear hearing aids, I would be very grateful to learn more.

I believe it was 1988 when I went to see a specialist about the almost constant ringing in my ears. That was the first time I ever heard of "tinnitus". He told me, "You don't need hearing aids YET but you will."

May 8, 1992, I got my first pair of Beltone hearing aids; cost $1,630.

June 13, 2006, I got my second set of Beltones; cost $4,588 and more powerful.

August 30, 2013, got my 3rd set of Beltones; cost $4,000

October 24, 2001, got a set of Starkey hearing aids; cost $1,800. I'd always heard that it's better to go to a doctor and an audiologist rather than an audioprosthologist, so I did ONCE. Both the doctor and the audiologist were crooks. The "programmable" Starkeys I got were nothing more than volume.

August 30, 2012, got new Beltone True hearing aids; cost $4,000. Five year warranty, programmable, 4 programs. Beltone will check them, reprogram them, recheck my hearing, etc. at no additional cost, and has done so a couple of times.

I use the In The Ear type; tried the Behind The Ear and was afraid they could fall off and get lost. If a hearing aid goes bad, it's sent back to be repaired; many years ago was $100 no matter what it took. It's still one price no matter what it takes but that's gradually gone up to about $250.

My hearing continues to gradually get worse and worse; now what they call "profound" hearing loss. The TV can be turned pretty loud, and if I take my hearing aids out, I won't hear a sound at all; won't hear a phone ring, rain, etc. My wife CAN yell loud enough for me to hear her, and if it's really close and loud I might hear thunder.

Good luck with your hearing.
