Eaves through covers to keep the leaves out

How about a downspout screen just before it goes into the ground to dump the crud out and let the water go through?

Thank you for finally revealing to this "lower 48'er" what Mike Holmes has been saying on his TV program "Make it right" all these years.
I could never figure out what an "Eve-strop" was ! eh?

"Eve strop" ????
I have never heard of "eve-strop"

I think you mean "eve trough".
It is a common term in Canada, and the USA also.

Eve's trough: After they named the animals, she built a place for them to drink.

That is very much like what I made except mine were funnels with screens inside. That style is self cleaning (except for needles), I like it. Are they available commercially?

Took the advice from a contractor and went with 4" downspouts. He smoothed the gutter holes and attached the downspouts. Most everything flushes out with a good rain.

I never understood the design of standard gutters where there's a small hole at the top of the downspout. It's an iron law of plumbing that you never have a drain pipe decrease in diameter. I don't understand why it's not the same for gutters. I'd much rather have a system that moved debris and clean out a trap with both feet on the ground than go up on a ladder.

Totally agree

Sorry, never heard that term. Lived in Southern California, Virginia, W Virginia, and Washington State and they've always been called "gutters".
