Eaves through covers to keep the leaves out

There are several things offered to keep leaves out of gutters. Two companies, K-Guard and Leaf Guard offer a gutter system with a metal Helmet designed to cause leaves to be diverted away from the gutter while allowing water to enter. Both are pricey. $13.00 -$14.00 dollars per running foot if existing down spouts are used.

Had a guy a couple weeks ago come out from Leaf Guaed to give us a estimate. Two simple gutters each about 60 feet long.
With tax it came to around $12,000.00
Guess I will still be cleaning my gutters.

Took the advice from a contractor and went with 4" downspouts. He smoothed the gutter holes and attached the downspouts. Most everything flushes out with a good rain.

Gutter brush - I've been using them for several years now with several maple trees around the house. Haven't had to clean any gutters since I put them in. Much cheaper than the over gutter designs and all you have to do is just drop them in

Do your downspouts go into drainage perforated pipe? Dont they just fill up over time, or does yours just flow onto the ground? If so, yes that would probably work very well.

When we had some gutter screens put on our gutters; there was a rather humorous miscommunication. Being a pessimist I specified to the salesman that when they installed it I wanted a three foot section of screening over each downspout. My thought was that way if there was a clog I could just remove a short section at the downspout and remove the clog. When the installers came out they did put a three foot section at each downspout, and that was all they installed. The rest of the gutter was wide open. A quick phone call and the error was corrected, but I still chuckle about it. True life representation of the tire swing installation cartoon.

At my last house and at my rental I cut the downspouts off about 18 inches above ground level and removed the screen at the top of the downspout. Then where the perf pipe came out of the ground I basically made a removable funnel out of PVC adapter fittings (going up in diameter as it got closer to the end of the downspout). I then made a screen in the funnel out of expanded aluminum. Every now and then I pulled the funnel out and banged it upside down on a rock or something to empty it.

Worked quite well for needles. None of my houses have had much of a problem with leaves since we mostly have evergreens here.

Go into solid pvc only for several feet.

Is the few feet of solid PVC not just just filling up over time without any screen at the top? My idea has always been to keep the leaves/needles out of the downspout AND out of the underground pipe.
