id say about 1/2 hr .It never did that before it stayed up longer then that.

Most manufacturers have published cylinder drift specifications that set a threshold for warranty claims. In general they are quite liberal. That is to say they have left themselves plenty of room to say sorry, but that amount of drift is within our tolerance. Sadly most hydraulic cylinder piston seals are more cheaply made and leak more than they used to.

Check with your dealer to see what the spec is for your brand loader.

I'd say MUCH more information would be helpful. You're not really giving us much to go on. Are you saying it's dropping while the engine is running and you're working? Or that it works fine but drops while parked after you shut the engine off?

Conventional thought is that for safety reasons, you should never walk away from the machine with the bucket left raised. It should always be on the ground when the engine is off unless you have it propped up for maintenance of some kind.

I've noticed my backhoe boom drifts down on my new B2650 a good bit faster than it did on my BX23. On the B2650, if I raise the boom all the way but don't engage the lock, it's not all that long before it drifts down enough that I have to raise it back up to engage the lock, and that's while running. On my old BX23, if the tractor was running, that almost never happened.

Not that you do not want tight hydraulics because FEL/booms dropping too fast with the tractor off indicates leaks which could reduce lift, etc. Having said that, it is good advice NOT to leave your boom/FEL in the up position in the event you have kids playing around your tractor. One on the seat playing with the joystick and one under the FEL/boom can seriously get someone hurt or worse,

Messicks had one of their short videos on hydraulics dropping over time and seems quite normal, don't know about 30 minutes though as I leave my bucket up for a about 30 minutes while splitting wood and loading it in the bucket at waist level.

For clarification.....is it the "bucket" or the "loader arms"?

IE: is the bucket DUMPING itself over time.....or the whole loader just going down?

This was me making a funny, but also what I meant was a lot of people on here notice their loaders/buckets/backhoes drifting down kinda fast when not in use. Initially I thought mine did to, but now I'm of the opinion that it's fine, thanks to reading all the people here complaining about same.

My BX23 700 hrs drops faster as I load it with firewood, engine running at 2k or so.
Without loading the bucket and the engine running it drops down maybe an inch every 10 minutes or so. FWIW

An inch every 10 minutes with no load is pretty rapid. In inch every 10 minutes with max load wouldn’t be that bad. It doesn’t make any difference if the engine is running or not.

That's not right.. My Massey would drop a little overnight but not at all when in use, I could load the bucket with firewood, leave it up a couple of feet, go eat lunch and it wouldn't move..

An inch of bucket travel or an inch of rod travel in 10 minutes? I’ve seen drift specs written both ways. An inch of rod travel in 10 minutes would be within some manufacturers tolerance.

not the OP but having a similar issue with my L5740 previous to recent work the bucket stay and any position for weeks at a time. Now the bucket will got full dump if left suspended for more than 1 hr.
I disconnected the lines and it still happens so i am assuming a seal is leaking in the bucket cylinders. No visable leaks

This sound like the same as what happening whit my tractor

There is a simple test procedure which, if followed, will identify the source of the drifting down.

Or you can use a non-contact infrared thermometer aimed at the area where the piston sits inside the cylinder bore. Cycling the cylinders either fully retracted or extended for short periods on/off starting with cold oil. If the piston area raises as little as 5* above the rest of the barrel, the piston seal is leaking. No mess, no spilled oil (until you rebuild the cylinder).
