From what I can see he has it tied down on all four corners. I can't tell the size of the chains. But, I would suspect the trailer is a bit over the GCW for the rig.

Saw this, on Facebook. 31k-35k machine on a dual tandem trailer behind a F350 or F-450 pickup.

There are 3 axles on that trailer. The Volvo excavator specs at around 29,000 pounds. If it is a F450 it could have a towing capacity of 34,000. Still over capacity, given the likely trailer weight, though.

I missed the third trailer axle.

According to Volvo, it’s 31k-35k:



Even at 30k, plus 7k, for the trailer, with 20% tongue weight = 7400 lbs on the truck. At 25% tongue weight, that’s around 9,259 lbs tongue weight.

Ford likes to list their gooseneck tongue weights with 10-15% tongue weight, but most trailers (with a load) will put 20-25% on the tow vehicle.

Most vehicles are rated for marketing. They run out of payload long before “towing rating”.

I didn’t notice the 3rd axel. It’s probably enough trailer for the job with the 3rd axel. While maybe not a significant overload for the truck that’s still a big load for a pickup.
