Homeowners Insurance

Homeowner's insurance can be high because of the distance from the nearest fire station and how good the station is rated. If they have old outdated equipment, the ability for them to save your house is less, so you pay more in insurance.

If that was the case I would be paying triple what I pay because the local volunteer dept has vintage equipment and houses burn flat to the ground before trucks arrive from three miles away around here pretty often..

I'm having trouble getting even the most basic information out of them. I've also been reading how others are having great difficulty with claims. I'm wondering if they (like so many others) have changed their practices in the last few years to be less consumer oriented.

I do believe that you are correct!
My friends and I now refer to it as UAA........United Automobile Assn.
The "Services" as we knew them 50+ years ago, are now mostly gone.

I have an electrician come in about every couple years to look things over along with my licenced hearth guy every year to limit any fire issue. I also take out every red squirrel that decides to try and make my soffits his home..

My family home is in a "hurricane zone".
That is what REALLY drives the cost.
My 289 year old house would be $4500+ (State regulated- Mass. Fair Plan)
I have Lloyds of London 350K coverage for $2200.

I could see the Fire department showing up and standing around having a safety meeting while your place burns. Hey, it's insured! Well mine isn't!

You used to be able to get a blanket farm insurance that supposedly covered everything. Twenty years ago or more, I had brokers come in for a quote. They individually itemized every building and larger piece of equipment. No way, I was going to pay what they had totalled up. Now, with two more building and a lot more equipment, it would just be out of the question.

I always thought you could underinsure, and get up to that amount for a loss, but then in reality you only get that percentage of what you covered. You insured a million dollar place for a hundred grand, and lost it, they would pay you ten grand!

I did contribute to fund raising for them, but it kind of bothered me to see them driving 60k plus vehicles while not paying for health insurance.

Happpened near us, house burnt down and took two new cars with it, no insurance and a public appeal, I did not contrribute, if you want the glitter pay the isurance, turned out nothing was paid for and credit cards all maxed out too.
Why am I expected to help pay for them to flaunt what they didn't have.

Yep... I hear you. Just payed 2nd 6 month payment for workman's comp... 15k. Liability was another 11k, I believe. That's x 2 for the year... And our clients cry about what it costs today...

....not sure how I forgot about health insurance premiums...my wife and myself...1600.00 a month. So add another 19,200.00 a year to our insurance bill
