Agreed but I don't see a place to turn around & backing out from the bridge looks like a long nightmare.

I remember being sent to a pick up one time where my dispatcher told me " When you get to the point you KNOW you are on the wrong road, you will come to a bridge you KNOW you can't cross. Cross it. Your pick up is another half mile up the road on the left."
It happens.
Yes it does, first thing I did was ask the guys working on the road if that bridge was REALLY a 3ton bridge, they said yup, and theres probably a cop on the other side waiting to give you a ticket. I was glade they were there to help me get turned around (not s small feat in my truck) because there was traffic behind me.

If theres a low capacity bridge on a small road there needs to be a sign BEFORE you're committed, some places are better then others about that.

^^ Few years back, one of our bridges degraded severely. New bridge was under construction, but at least a year short of completion. They dropped the load limit to 3 tons which is barely enough for a passenger car or pickup truck with a trailer hauling much of anything. My car is a little over 4,000 and my small 4x8 trailer with wood deck and sides is close to 750, maybe over. There were a few times when hauling lumber or concrete, I probably came very close to that limit.

I forget the former limit but it was used by grain trucks, gravel trucks, tankers and pretty much everything else. After the reduction, even smaller UPS and FEDEX trucks were barred. They positioned a marked unit with blue lights there 24 hours a day for close to a year and I know they wrote quite a few citations for trucks and other vehicles that were over limit.

Rural public road, and he ignored the bridge's posted weight restriction. I don't think GPS takes that into consideration.

Google Maps

Bruce

It depends on the GPS. If he was using a "consumer" one or something on his phone then no it wouldn't. But there are companies that make GPS units specifically for truckers. These units have all bridge ratings/clearances, road grades, truck route detours, etc. They will track fuel usage and drive time and can sync with your E-logs. Most of them allow you to put in your truck info and it will calculate the best route based on weight, etc.

Can anyone see how long this harvester ran? That article was written in 2013. (Maybe Bruce, bcp, can dig something up. He usually has some great finds.) My google search came up with no updates. Thanks in advance. Jon
It's still going, but I have no idea how many hours it has. I believe that one of his sponsors has committed to donations for as long as it keeps running, rather than up to a certain amount as previously reported.
Fort Kent is a great town, and this is the kind of thing that people up there would do.

What of drivers who hit low bridges? Apparently the whole industry and it's drivers isn't what it used to be. Less money to be made and poorer quality drivers.

Coming back from Minnesota, I saw drivers in a Tim Hortons wearing Little Blue Tooth Headsets and wearing Flipflops! Are those really truck drivers?

Pfft, those automatic transmissions used by many now handle those flip flops just fine :)

Are flip flops legal to drive in ? Yes I realize its not likely to be enforced

Just a little sag in the bed of the trailor. Tires running at a angle. Side rails a little bent.
