I almost got screwed by a low capacity bridge when I had my transport company, was driving down a 2 lane road and came across an obscured sign that all I could make out was a 3, I could see a large steel truss bridge up ahead and figured it was 30ton, which would have been more then enough for my almost unloaded truck.

Nope got almost to the bridge and happened to notice a tiny sign that was actually readable and it was a 3TON! That's right, a 3ton bridge on a fairly decent sized road. Luckily there was some guys doing roadwork that were able to help stop traffic and let me get turned around which was quite a feat as there wasnt a good spot and the shoulders were soft. And no I didn't use GPS at the time.

That said, if I rolled up to that bridge with that truck I probably would be thinking twice about crossing it.

Agreed but I don't see a place to turn around & backing out from the bridge looks like a long nightmare.

I remember being sent to a pick up one time where my dispatcher told me " When you get to the point you KNOW you are on the wrong road, you will come to a bridge you KNOW you can't cross. Cross it. Your pick up is another half mile up the road on the left."
It happens.

We once represented a land owner who had a bridge as the entrance to his property. A propane truck fell through the bridge after delivering to the residence and as the driver wascrossing the bridge when leaving the property.

We were able to place liability on the driver when he testified on deposition that he has just filled up the truck before making the trip to our owners property and as he crossed the bridg entering he heard it "Crack". Then on exiting he stopped before crossing the bridge and got a 'running start' at it down the hill.

Luckily, nobody was hurt and everything worked out fine. Propane Company's insurance carrier paid off after the depo. Quickly.

Can anyone see how long this harvester ran? That article was written in 2013. (Maybe Bruce, bcp, can dig something up. He usually has some great finds.) My google search came up with no updates. Thanks in advance. Jon

It probably won't make news when it is painted not-pink. :)

Another article:
BTB 34: Think Pink | Tigercat

And from:
TimberLine Magazine Article - Maine Logger Keeps the Big Picture in Mind

"When Keith approached Tigercat with the idea of using the pink Tigercat 822C to raise funds for programs that support Maine residents dealing with cancer, the company committed $2 for every hour the machine runs up to $100,000. (Funds raised by Loggers for Cancer support the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund and the Maine Cancer Foundation.)

As for how the fundraising is going, here’s the answer: “As long as we own the machine and don’t paint it another color, we have sponsors for the next 10 years,” said Mike."

I had found the same articles except that your first link shows how long it ran... you must have a crystal ball or something.

Anyone who blindly follows a GPS without thinking for themselves when things don't seem right should be charged the same as DUI or distracted driving. They aren't responsible enough to be allowed to drive.
By the looks of that bridge, I'd stop and think about driving my pickup across. Hope he learned. The first and only thing my cdl instructor was real mean about was me being a #$%%^ stupid ***** and not noticing the weight sign on a bridge we crossed. It stuck with me.
