How do you protect your PTO shaft when it's not being used?

'FF' is a lanolin based lubricant and I use a similar spray all around the property... including the base/deck of my wood splitter. I works great and doesn't make a mess of my wood.

On the tractor = if it moves, but doesn't have a dedicated grease nipple, it gets a shot/spray of lanolin lubricant.

Besides being a good lube that stays where you put it and stays slick, Fluid film also has a unique property, it doesn’t smell terrible (as long as you don’t think freshly sheared wool stinks) and is actually good for dry skin. I don’t have to listen to SWMBO complain about the smell of whatever lube I used. She hates it when I clean guns in the house. :(

I love the smell of Hoppe's #9 in the morning!

Hoppe's would also make an excellent cologne.:D

All ribbing aside, protecting your shafts is always a good idea.
From what?? Theft??

All of mine are connected to a tractor, no one will easily steal them! lol

I still have a tractor my dad bought in the 50's, it's never had grease or any lube on the PTO shaft for storage and "maybe" had light oil on it when in use. My dad believed in keeping them DRY to keep them clean, and to this day there's NO wear or rust on the PTO shaft AND it's never been covered...

Is "that" a long enough test for you??? lol

Not for these people, it has to be polished, lubed, covered & kept in a climate controlled building with a cement floor.
It needs to be insured and alarms on the tractor & building.

It's probably a long enough test for where you and that tractor have lived. Are you saying that your environment is the same as everywhere else in the world?

I live about 5km from the Tasman sea... just far enough that 'salt air' isn't a huge corroding factor. Those closer to the coast have to take that into consideration.

It's like me boasting that, during the Winter, I've never had to undercoat my ute.
